Love the vids, and LOVE this idea and build. As the son of a carpenter, I really appreciate the home build ideas. I get so wrapped up in standard remodels or small additions, that I sometimes forget the joy of a cool, creative project for our own home. Great stuff, John. At some point…I’ll take on epoxy. 😂

You use a respirator when you spray the lacquer, and you take your glasses off so that the lacquer mist doesn't get on your glasses, but then your eyeballs are EXPOSED!! Please take better care of yourself. ALL of your parts are important, and if you can't see due to eyeball complications....well, your wife isn't going to be very happy having to do EVEN MORE to take care of you...never mind what that will do to your daughter!! Okay, enough guilt. Just grab a pair of goggles, even if they're not prescription and protect your eyes when spraying! Please.

I work at a cabinet shop/ sports locker shop and for sports lockers we use metal grating just like that and there is a clear rubber product that comes in a long line that we cut to size and insert between the metal and a little 1/8 inch line that we rout out. That would be what you’re looking for for those doors. I could get more information if you’re interested

idk if you fixed it yet but for the noisy metal cabinets at 11:06 a cheap and easy fix without redesigning anything would just be to back the screws out, add some rubber o rings or even some rubber furniture bumpers and screw em back in. the bumpers would give more surface area for a tighter fit and would hardly be noticeable if you can find the right size.

for the mesh in the doors you could have routed out some holes for some small rare earth magnets and epoxied them in if you used steel mesh, if you used an aluminum mesh, you could have routed a "half lap" joint on the back, placed the mesh and then made a small "veneer" to screw to the door and hold it that way.

I thought you were going for hidden mass storage in the beginning. It's cool ain't gonna lie but it's a bit of an overengineering for that 14 bottles IMO. I don't know the importance/value of the blends you have there, I'm a Rum guy. Cool project but not that practical to be honest.

I have had woodwork experience before, but it was a long time ago. I always wonder what it takes for these sort of projects. Where do you set the bar so it doesn't look out of place to people of all heights. My main concerns is that if I ever DIY something similar to this the height of my bar would be limiting to only me.
@Turbobuttes
@Turbobuttes Жыл бұрын
Both your work effort and the video content are inversely proportional to the amount of storage each solution provides. The cabinets take up 20% of the time and provide 80% of the storage, the hidden thingy takes up 80% of the time and provides 20% of the storage.

When the notification for this video I thought I'd put it on while working on something else with my kids around. Unfortunately you weren't able to convey how unhappy you were with a particular piece of wood without using language that I'm not ready to hear my kids regurgitating. Now you'll go back on the shelf of content that I don't watch unless I have hit the bottom of the list of my interests.
