Matthias' Cabin Chronicles

Matthias' Cabin Chronicles

Күн бұрын

Hello friends. I just spent a few days clearing the build site of my property where I will be building a log cabin. Finally, a new video is here!
In this epizode I am building concrete pillars, I'm splitting a log and more!
You can also watch the new episode that is out: • Building a LOG CABIN i...

More about me:
When I was 20 years old, I dropped out of college and said to myself that I will do what I really want and what I see meaning in. So I decided to build my dream log cabin, all by myself, in the middle of an off-grid bush.
After I left school, I went to work for a while to earn money for trees and hand tools. I spent all the money I earned and my savings on it. Thank God, I already owned the land I have - I got it from my dear parents as a gift and I also bought another part of the land with my own money.
I chose a log cabin for my home because I like it. I build it with the vision of living a simple and peaceful life in it. Having time is more important to me than having money. Of course, nowadays a person cannot live without money, but I would like to live in such a way that my expenses are not so high and thus reduce the need for money. I want to have time not only for myself, but also for my future wife and children. That's why I will try to build the most self-sufficient life possible, in which my own housing, in my case a log cabin, will be the heart of this system.
I chose the traditional method of building - using only hand tools because they are my favorite. There is beauty in simplicity.
Working with hand tools has several advantages: You are able to work off-grid, the entire set of tools you need can fit in one bag, there is better safety when you work alone, you don´t make too much noise when you´re working... so I enjoy it more and I believe you will too, while watching :)
My dear father is a carpenter. I remember that most of the things he taught me while working with wood were precisely while working with hand tools, which required the most attention and practice from me.
My father taught me how to work with wood from a young age, but I have no experience with building a log cabin, so I'm learning everything as I go, and I'm looking forward to what this experience will teach me.
It may not seem like it, but it was a big struggle to get this opportunity to be able to work on my dream, but I finally did it and for that I am incredibly grateful. I also started this KZbin channel where I share my entire journey, so if you are interested, you can check it out. There is no one behind the camera, so I do all the filming and editing myself. I would also be very grateful if you would support my journey by subscribing or sharing, if you want to.
Thank you for being here, I really appreciate it and I'm glad you're watching. I will try to make videos as best as I can, so that you get the greatest enjoyment from them.
Thank you all for your attention. Enjoy!

Now this is the way you show someone building a Log Cabin!! Laying out everything picture perfect, sweating, lift, and pulling those heavy Logs! A very youngman who knows how to work hard, and I wish, that I could have had a couple of thode hamburgers! My Hat is off to you! Great Video! I would recommend this Video!😊😊😊

I am loving your videos and they make me wish I was 20 years younger. I would have skipped nursing degree and masters degree. I had always been drawn to wood working and carpentry but in my younger years it never dawned me all of the things you could do with it. What a blessing to have the skills you have and kudos to your dad for getting you started when you were younger so that you would be able to figure things out like how to build a log cabin later in life! I wish I could hire you to build one for me and all my dogs and cats! 🥴

big love to you mon. I built my own log home with me hands too. Its been a few years, now I am starting to think about how rad it all is. how the hard work paid off. like bob mackie said in his book, nobody will see the tree when it falls but you. nobody will know how hard it was but you. this is your thing, and they cannot take this away from you for I ever.

Personally I'd be using a chain saw... could be electric if you wanna keep the noise down but they cut wood a LOT cleaner and quicker than splitting stuff by hand. If you can't handle a chain saw you really don't sport the mechanics to be doing this anyway. Yep I'd be using battery operated drills and saws as well. You can charge them all overnight wherever you happen to be staying on grid. My Makita stuff charges in about 20 min. You need to put a metal roof on that cabin once you get there. I also think you need a support at midpoint on those long logs as that decreases the corner support load by 50%. Retired contractor.

Very clever and handy idea to incorporate rocks in the concrete pillars! And very interesting to see how you made them, I have a wooden house too and will need to re-build the entrance parts from scratch, including the foundation/pillars on which the wooden part then stands. I can see you are one strong man with a lot of grit the way you move those logs around. You will be very fit once you are done building. What species of tree are you using? Praying mantis are my favorite bug! I live on west coast of US in Washington state we to have praying mantis. One acre of land here goes for $50-$60,000 USD insane! Matthias keep up the great work, awesome job! Can't wait to get caught up watching your beautiful videos. This video alone has over 94,000 views that is insane never seen that before👏😁

Thank you! The species of tree is fir. Praying mantises are very cute bugs 😁 I live in Europe in a small country called Croatia. Those are high prices. However, when it comes to the coastal part of building plots in Croatia, we only have slightly lower prices. 94K views is nothing today. There are videos with several million views. But I still have to say that I am extremely grateful for all 94K! Thanks again for the nice comment. I appreciate it 😁

For strength don't put in big rocks and for proper weight distribution make the foundation blocks pyramid shaped or build a footing. They most likely won't topple over, unless that is a wet area certain times of the year.

Nice Job, young man! Where in Sweden are you? I live in South Florida, since 1985, but I am from Rovaniemi, Arctic Circle , Finland. my Grand father, and his brothers, they were called " Laukkanen Handyman Group", they build more than 30 Schools, and other big buildings around Arctic Circle, and most of those buildings are still there, nice and straight. One of them, Pohtimolampi, or Bear Lodge Hotel now, is close to Rovaniemi, about 30 km North, I always stay there couple nights, in Luxory Cabins, Main Hotel Building was built 1954, and big Sauna building, First 1952. You should check it out, my Grand Father and his Father, Brothers, they were Master Log Builders, and also mainly did only hand tools, they had Chainsaw though later years. Going to Finland for Christmas now, and planning to stay again couple night in Pohtimolampi, my own SUmmer Cottage is only about 7 kilometers away from there, at Ounasjoki River, in a small Village, called Sinetta, I was born and grew up there. I will be following your nice , hard build, Good Luck from Sunny South Florida, and Merry Christmas too =)
