I have been researching where to get brain tanned hide want to start tufting and quilling I have the quills from wandering bull but no hide yet so any input and direction would be sooo appreciated thank you for your great videos
@lindapritchard5854 Жыл бұрын
Best way is to search brain tanners on Facebook and Instagram. Circle s leather has great hides. I have lost their number but contact them there.

I'm brand new at this an wanted to know the technique from beginning to end. I've looked at dozens and your videos are by far the most clear and comprehensive of all. I couldn't figure out how the needle was threaded for starters. Your video is the only one that shows that. Also, the zoom is tight enough to see exactly what you are doing with the quills and needle and thread. Kudos to you for these great tutorials!

Linda I have been watching your videos on quilling and have been working on my first sheeth. Jack Johnson told me you were supposed to be here at Shoenbrunn Trade Faire this weekend but we're unable. I'm so sorry I didn't get to meet you but the knife sheeth you donated is absolutely beautiful. I hope I'm as good as you someday. Be blessed my friend.

Beth Stevenson oh thanks so much ! Yes looks like we aren’t going to make it. I hope your Quillworking experience brings you lots of fun. Hope to see you down the road at some point. Take care Beth.

Hi I'm just learning and I have a question please and thank you. For the zig zag you flatten the quill and when you do the edges how come you didn't flatten the quill? Sorry for the questions but I didn't hear if you explained that part. Thank you for your video
@lindapritchard58544 жыл бұрын
bev dowdy yes you are correct. You flatten the quill for jigjag to give it a nice neat appearance but for edging you don’t because the fatness of the quill around the edge fills in real nicely . If you flatten it it won’t look as full and nice.

@@lindapritchard5854 thank you so much. Does it matter what kind of deer hide you use to practice with?
@lindapritchard58544 жыл бұрын
bev dowdy yes if you use a commercial tanned deer hide it will be very difficult to get good results. Brain tanned deer hide done right is like using a soft material. You only pick up the very top of the hide when you stitch not clear through. Hard to do that with commercial tanned. Good luck and have fun.

I just love your work..I made a knife sheath last year, and of course its full of mess ups..:( but gonna try again..I forgot ..where do you find your supplies..thanks so much
@lindapritchard58544 жыл бұрын
kathleen celine McGrane you can order hides from many different brain tanners. Just search them on Facebook. Quills I get ordering a while dried hide. Moscow hide and fur also I think crazy crow sells them. And you can order natural dyes from many different place like Hillcreek fiber studio . Have fun. Keep on Quilling !

Tetelestai Creations that is the sweetest thing anyone has ever said to me. I never thought about myself as a teacher but knowing some of the old ways are being passed on has made my day. Thank you very much and keep practicing ! ❤️You have inspired me to make more videos !

what do mean by, greasing the sheath?
@lindapritchard58545 жыл бұрын
I usually either dye it with walnut dye or apply mink oil or something to darken the leather
@star64blanket6 жыл бұрын
Is this braintanned moose, elk or deer? Does it make a difference which one you use?
@lindapritchard58546 жыл бұрын
star64blanket I only use deer. I know Elk is much thicker I would think moose would be as well but if it is tanned very well and very soft I'm sure you could use it.
@lindapritchard58544 жыл бұрын
star64blanket sorry I didn’t see this message. I use deer it is thinner
