Chris from The Wandering Bull, LLC demonstrates this challenging wrapped Quillwork technique that dates from the 1750s. Chris starts by showing you how to prepare the Porcupine Quills. Then he goes through the steps to make a Quillwork panel using two Split Ash Splints. You can follow this technique to create decorative Quillwork panels that you can attach to accessories, such as the Braintanned Deerskin Knife Sheath shown in the video. Shop wanderingbull.... for all of your Quillwork supplies!

I wanted to thank you guys for being at Mohegan in 2019 when I had a nasty problem with my belt set and was able to get the copper cones with deer hair right from your stand! You all are the best. As for this video: What I love about that split-ash technique is if the sheath wears out or something else happens, all you have to do is remove and pop it right back on the new one! No need to worry about the hard work done.

How do you attach the ash splints to the leather when the quillwork is done?
@thewanderingbull9843
@thewanderingbull9843 2 жыл бұрын
To attach the splints to the leather you would cut a small hole in the leather and slide the splints into it. Then I would use the imitation sinew to stich the sides. I sewed a piece of leather over the top to secure it. If you have any questions feel free to call the shop at 1-800-430-2855. Thanks for watching!

very nicely done. Chris . Congrats on 50 years in business Shame that the U.K AND U.S Custom officials never get tired of playing one up man ship, to make it so cost prohibitive to export / import animal products. Talk about cutting off your nose to spite your own face. Way to go Customs and Excise

Hello Henry, Thanks for watching! This is a two needle technique, where all the beads are strung to go around the sheath. Then go back and tack down the thread after each two beads.
