the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. kzbin.infoUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

cool build. Adding a splash mat (used for oil) under the rocks where the water falls and repositioned rocks will help cut down on the splash. Really nice look

My husband and I built this spillway water feature! Ours was 8’ tall and 5’ wide. We built it in the front of our house against the bump out for our fireplace, which dictated the size. I redesigned the actual back structure wall to save money on the pressure treated wood. We also replaced the cedar tongue & grove boards with flat top cedar fence pickets. Much less expensive. We also trimmed our fountain with left over cedar trim in place of metal angle iron, which was another cost saver. And using this method we had almost zero waste of the cedar boards. All these cost saving measures allowed us to purchase a more wider spillway with LIGHTS. After running the water feature for about a week we abandon the rocks and plastic bins lid due to splash out. Instead attached wire mesh to the top of the bin using zip ties. It works way better and allows for better access to install water clarifier. This water feature is completely beautiful! OUR TOTAL COST $425!!

Your going to be filling that water tank quite often with that splashing going on...trust me I know ... I have a huge fountain in my back yard and we had to adjust with small rocks to lower the water flow....and also how will you get to the pump easily? you will have to disassemble the rocks and cover every time? can you do a follow up video on maintaining of this nice water feature?

Personally, if I’m to spend that much, I would certainly get a much wider fountain piece… you have a grand piece with the cedar but this tiny tiny stream. Almost makes it look a bit silly. Perhaps that’s just my personal taste but yeah. I’d defiantly add (probably fake) vines and foliage too

Whenever I get around to doing that, I’ll be sure to start a channel. I’m just expressing my personal preference. If you’re spending that much you should definitely go for the best of the best. All he has to do is put a ball valve on the return from the pump so he can adjust the flow. Another nice touch would be to put an auto top off float. That way as water evaporates it automatically fills the reservoir with new water.

the spilling of water on the long run makes the reservoir to run out of water, maybe the water fall or elevation is making this water-stone impact enough to create the spilling.

Build looks great m'man! Glad Irina got in on some of the build action, she already understands the first rule of being a builder - blame the supplies/tools, not the skill set hahah! While I'm a huge fan of the angle iron, I think I may have opted for attaching them to the vertical sections (to hide seems), then for the horizontal section surrounding the water area, I would have put a mitered cedar frame. Totally personal preference though, I think either way would look solid!

The way you’re showing and walking through the steps with your wife to teach her, is why I subbed in the first place. The channel seems to have strayed from showing how it’s done properly with tips here and there. To now an HGTV cut scene, slo mo, with vague details on what you’re doing and why. Don’t get me wrong I still watch. Just an observation.

With a big feature like that, i would have gone with three or four spouts at the top that stepped down on an angle, or gone with a wider spout to make the waterfall more the feature. As it is, it is pretty, however the ceadar is more the focal point than the water. You did an awesome job, just my opinion on how i would have changed it up.
