One strong axle, front or rear! Great condensed explanation!

this looks so simple that i want and would have to confidence to put this together by myself.... except for one part, which would be the welding part... i have no idea have to weld correctly/ i get how to but i wouldn't be able to weld and know if it was good.

Can you build one for the front of a F650? I think a chromoly shaft and truetrac unit would be great internals, but would need the outer hub setup for 10x285.75 bolt pattern with disc brakes. For residential contracting, it’d be plenty strong

That a baller axle right there.. Stronger then a 14 bolt, with similar build? Whats the cost on something like this
@CraneAxle3 жыл бұрын
It depends on what options you choose and if you want a ready to ride or roller axle or a housing to build your own. You can check out our site for current prices: craneaxle.com/default/products/axle-assemblies.html

@@CraneAxle my problem is, ive been through 2× 14 bolts and this latest one the brake mounting ears are slightly bent and I'm tited of brakes dragging
@WideOpenDesign3 жыл бұрын
@@gregleblond9367 The Dana 80 is really about as strong as it gets. It will cost more than a 14 bolt though. You could also re-work your 14 bolt if the brake mounting ears are the only issue.

So when are you going to start producing portal axles?
@CraneAxle3 жыл бұрын
Not sure - no plans yet but that could change.

@@CraneAxle cool. I’ve been racking my brain trying to figure through how it could be done with the portal box being permanently mounted to the axle and the inner-C and rear spindle attaching to the outside of the box. Throwing the F450 Unit Bearing on that axle (different video) was the ah-ha moment I needed. I doubt I’ll ever get a chance to build it, but I know what to work towards if I do.

@@lanceroark6386 Sounds like you got it figured out brother! If you ever get 'er built we'd like to see it :-)

Why are you adding grease when pressing in the axles housings? Seems like that would make it a bitch to not contaminate the weld

I'm a professional on finding weak points on any axle and when I do you have to make it stronger

Lol go smash it into rocks till it breaks. Weak link found. That's the professional way!
@Aint1S3 жыл бұрын
This is going to be my last build... That said, I noticed a guy wanting portals on axles that were designed to be the last ones you ever needed. Seems counterintuitive to put a portal box on an able axle meant to crush rocks on a hopper/bouncer. Maybe on a highway set of gears in the 3-4's for lift too, but these axles are not what he's needing. Portals on a Dana 80 ring/pinion = transfer case delete and one more week link with a new breaking point?! 🤔🤣🤣
