Our very own, Dale Strickler, speaks on the timely topic of drought resilience. In Dale’s book, The Drought Resilient Farm, Dale covers how to improve soil’s ability to hold and supply moisture to plants, how to maintain feed and drinking water for livestock when rainfall is limited and how to redesign agricultural systems to fit semi-arid climates.

50:30 we are in cali and the fog is underrated. But if you don't rotate your stock you don't get that fog. It basically rains nearly everyday in cali because of that fog. just most producers (those ones are slowly going out of biz) don't let things grow long enough to capture the fog so they always need rain. because everything dang near dead on their lease.

I left grass last year and then thegrass hoppers moved in and they ate it. This year i overgrazed it so at least i was feeding the cows not the grasshoppers.

Do you fertilize your grass? I was watching another webinar about pest pressure increases from nitrogen stressed vegetation.

24:14 because you get those lease times because land owners know renters are running stocking cattle and breeding cows in cow calf that are too heavy for the land out of season. Plus, a lot of them think they are going to hunt or do whatever and they never do. So, land is recovering because you aren't trusted. And honestly I'd not trust most producers at this point in the game. so few of them run in the way in which you do. Also, undervaluation of tree forage by operators is an industry wide problem in droughtland. Also, sometimes the cow isn't the answer to all problems it's normally missing sheep / goats / and other logical things that should be in range and operations. But folks have issues hiring because farmers and ranches aren't a propriety job opportunity for USA workers. And they are right if you look up old numbers of what farm hands use to make adjusted for inflation and buying power they made so much more money then they do now. Most of those hands couldn't read and they couldn't run computer programs to help you on farm like now the modern worker can now.

28:07 I disagree id bale graze on stockpile and keep them moving like a normal rotation. just prep the area for the bales. leaves some behind.lots of time you see producers wanting them to eat the whole bale of hay. but if you are grazing them on stockpile keep it moving. don't feed panic cattle in the winter keeping them in an area so they lick the pasture down to nothing, you just give the area you bale grazed a lot more time to recover and it will be fine. also get under 1000 pound cattle.

47:07 the americas is some of the best grassland for grazing in the whole world. There's very few places on earth that have ever been built for large and small. But we go out of way to destroy native grasslands. IT's freakin nuts and grow em corn to silage feed. lol I'm like what is going on here.
