Building & Fixing Tiger Ausf. B v1 King Tiger Prototype | Takom 1/35 King Tiger Initial | Part 1

This ist the first episode of my 1/35th scale Takom King Tiger Initial build as V1 Prototype. I'll go through the build section by section. Highlighting all modifications Takom requires us to do in order to build thier featured vehicle in Kit No. 2096 as well thouse modifications they missed. At some point they just stoped giving us instructions, paper was short of supply I guess ; ) But it's a vehicel I like, so let's get it done...
My information is based on Tiger and its Varients by Spielberger and Germanys Tiger Tanks by Jentz; (No affiliation).
Have a look at ‪@thetankmuseum‬ they do have the 2nd King Tiger Prototype vehicle, it's as close as it gets in features; (No affiliation).

Like this comment if you want me to fix the turret ring as well in the next episode! It's a minor difference when we look at real test turret, the turret ring seems to be wider - didn't have the material at hand when I build it at my parents house in the first place... later in series production vehicles a protection ring was added to the hull instead, the kit does include that part, but not the one for the three test turrets fitted to v1-v3.

That kit seems like Dragon levels of stupid. I hate filling locator marks that shouldn't be there. That turret roof fix was a tough one. I was wondering how you would handle it if they didn't include it.

I love the subject, the detailing and completness (is that a word?) of the kit - it's another thing to pay half the price of this kit ontop just to find DS Tracks in the box. So it's imho better than Dragons Stupidity Level (watched your prototype Panther...) If Evan would not have spotted it, I would have had a series turret on it now xD If had spotted it before I left for home, I would have printed the roof section and done the welds with green stuff - can't figure out how to make welds in cad - that's your territory ; )

The Bovington prototype King Tiger is on loan to the Dutch military museum in Soesterberg in Holland. We hope to have it a little bit longer because of covid.

Gute Vorstellung des Takom-Kits zusammen mit Deiner ersten Einschätzung zu den Teilen. Schöner Zusammenbau in Schritten, mit ein paar feinen Ätzteilgittern. Die Eigenbauschweißnähte sind auch recht gut geworden. Niemand ist perfekt. Nach der Bemalung wird das alles sehr gut aussehen! Wünsch Dir ein schönes Wochenende, Kai. Gruß, Joachim

Ah, the Royal/King/Königs 🐅. One would think Wapruf 6 would have realized by now, with 60+ ton tanks, that they should move the transmission to the back...

Is the parts difficult?

Very easy to build if you do not modify everything. Shorten fenders - no problem - fixing the turret is not easy if it is your first kit.

Does dragon have the prototype KT? I don't think so? Yes you are right, Dragon's KT mold is rather dated and doesn't live up to what they can do for other vehicles. I've more KT content coming this winter.
