I'm in an apartment in a big city, but on video #39 of your playlist and am just captivated... It's so impressive and resourceful. The level of detail and the fact that you guys made this series to document every thought and step from the very very beginning... is just amazing. So happy I found your channel. If I ever build a house one day, you guys will have been a huge inspiration!

Wow thanks for the awesome comment!! With a project as big as this, it felt like we’d be crazy not to document it in as much detail as we could. So much gets forgotten in a short time otherwise! One day, go buy some land and go for it 😉

@@MasonDixonAcres Thank you!! So many benefits to documenting things like this, for sure! Imagine that years from now it will be fascinating for your family to look back on the origins of the house and property. Cheers!

Love those bibs Alex😘… thx for the shout Out!!! Ha ha ha … as soon as this video started rolling … my comment to Mark was “He still has those old bibs on!!” , forget what your actually doing with the footers, measuring and putting rebars in!!! BTW… I knew that the emptying the “swimming pool” was going to be a job for Ms Elaina!!! 👍🏻… great job Elaina… really liked your effort with the hose 🤣… YOU GO GUYS… 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Haha she's the sweetest! The potty was about 90/month and they cleaned it every other week. Thanks for the kind words ☺️

If this series was set up to play one after an other in order I would watch them all. Would also help with views?

This is inspiring me to price in framing and tarping my work site when I start the form work of my 24’x42’ foundation work. You gotta figure even if it cost an extra $800 in materials it’s worth not having to re-do your excavation work, right?

Sir, im doing a very similar thing with stone under a footer. How much stone did you put in thickness. I have 12 inch uncompacted . Ive heard all kinds of stories. I will try a heavy trench roller to compact deeper. You went 7 inches under a slab you did. I think i overkilled. You went 4 inches. Sorry. Supposedly, there is a max lift of 12 inches.

What if I have a house with a crawl space and due and gave issues with water pooling around my footers after rain. What would you recommend to fix the problem
@MasonDixonAcres2 жыл бұрын
The most likely issue is improper grading around the house. Make sure the ground slopes away 1/2" per foot for 10 feet around the perimeter of the house.
@patrick83912 жыл бұрын
@@MasonDixonAcres it could be from settling. I would have to remove a lot of soil to fix grade. Do you think it's some I can do myself
@nickgeorgie1957 Жыл бұрын
Compacting that stone in the footing is the best way to throw money and time in the wind. It seems that you don’t know that you CANNOT compact clean stone: absolutely you cannot. The reason that this material cannot be compacted.
@MasonDixonAcres Жыл бұрын
Incorrect - you you can settle it. That's why plate compactors and vibratory rollers exist - to settle granular material such as stone. And jumping jacks for cohesive material such as soil.

I don't know where this guy(nick) got his info, but usually a soft soil requires stone under footer.
