Those presses are soo nice. I had one because of how much we did with bearings maintaining the tillage equipment, seeding equipment etc. before I left the farm I went to an air jack. Nice, but loud. Not necessary unless you are doing 50 bearings in a day or more. Which I will never do now, but that was more common than I want to admit on the farm. We had fine silica sand in the soil and that crap was merciless! With POR15 vs Rustoleum. Rustoleum doesn’t need a primer and actually treats any rust you couldn’t get like in cracks. T( way you are doing this, I would likely use Rustoleum as well. A flat finish, but otherwise the same. With POR15, it’s all 8 use when I restore a frame on one of my projects. The frames are stripped almost to the last nut & bolt so there’s very few areas that don’t end up bare metal. We often sandblast them, or even dip them, depending on the project. Then the metal is fully bare and must be primed and the right primer is your direct contact with the metal POR15 never touches any of the metal so it binds with the primer. It’s like a paint job on the exterior of the vehicle. That’s the difference in my opinion. If I don’t dip the frame and there are pieces we didn’t pull apart because they were welded, or riveted with the large rivets that I just don’t mess with. (If they haven’t loosened in 50 years, they never will!) in all those joints, I use a rust treatment that will penetrate the areas an convert the rust. The primer works so much nicer that way. Between my buddies and I there are dozens & dozens of vehicles out there with frames and wheel wells etc, depending on each taste, that are 20 + years old doing better thabn they ever did from the factory. Many are only driven 1000 kms or so a year, but they don’t count. Many of the 80s 4x4s are daily drivers!! It’s how ya do it that dictates the outcome vs the actual product. POR 15 in direct contact with bare metal doesn’t bond. Not well at least. I don’t find anything wrong with what you are doing. Don’t see ya showing the bus at Pebbel Beach anytime,,,, 😂😂😂. Siometimes we just get snooty and don’t notice. I don’t know anyone that doesn’t still use Rustoleum in certain scenarios and that haven’t done whole frames with it when $$ was tight. I spray Both with a gun when I can.

Good stuff, yeah I have had good results with rustoleum, and no I won’t be showing the bus at this years pebble beach event! 😂

Painting in tight spots is hard the front of the bus looks great, having a press is cool so you don’t have to take it to the machine shop to have it done. The washers look like it will take care of your issue with the front of the engine. Thanks Tim

Hi, Thinking about raising the front mounts, if you put the fan back on the front pulley, check that it sits vertical on the blades.. I'd suspect that the rear mounts will also have to raise by the same amount to keep the fan blades vertical to the radiator .. Keep up the good work .. Slow and steady wins the race .. Andy UK .

Forgot to mention in previous video that you can also spray some Fluid Film on the chassis that blocks oxygen and will stop/reduce any rust. Good stuff and makes it much easier to get into areas that you can't paint. It does smell for a while, but eventually the smell goes away. Check it out and see if it can work for you before you button it all back up.

Any professional paint supply store should have a variety of angle brushes, what we used to refer to as "radiator brushes", angled like a hockey stick, or some with the angle forty five to the handle, very short handles to very long (30") and of course different width of bristles. They can be a big help in nooks and crannies. Seldom see them in the box stores for some reason. McMaster Carr and those will have them as well. They also hold much more paint than the chip brushes so you can cover more area between dipping.

Very satisfying and you're doing it yourself. Looks great. If you paint the frame again down the road you might invest in POR-15.

Ask for "industrial" washers at FastenAll or McMaster, etc. These are the very thick washers (about three or four times a normal). If you have a lathe of course, that is the easiest way to get exactly what you want. They make an industrial fender washer as well. They are a higher grade of steel to boot.

Hey brother, nice press. But you need to get a air over hydraulic jack for it and get some steel press plates and get rid of the cast iron plates that came with the press. They will break and hurt you badly, ask me how I know😢😢😢. I have the same one but I converted it to air over hydraulic and it is a world of difference. Stay safe and strong brother. Your friend and brother in arms, Skip.

Are you painting that pan, and the rest of those pieces.the fan .shroud. you can buy rock guard in a spray form and or bed liner in spray form, helping to preserve the paint and metal.

Also you can buy heavy gage tube and cut spacers same length as stacked washers. Also , just a thought, maybe install another rubber one like motor mount ones..top and bottom..Then again just being helpful. Was that a tortice with a paint brush under the bus?.

You know... I've seen people mount these auxiliary engines using a slice of a mud flap or something as a gasket to reduce noise conduction and limit vibration... but - I wonder if someone might try using a slice of kill-mat (sp?)? You know, the sound deadening material people have been putting on the floors of their cars under the carpet to reduce road//vibration noise. I bet some of that in that engine tray could make a noticeable difference.
