Awesome! From a plumber's view point...that is one fine crawlspace.

Foundation is awesome and super strong, but I'm most excited for the actual timber frame videos. If your timber framing work is as impressive as your furniture, this house is going to be epic. Cheers!

You definitely look like you know what you are doing. I so miss doing this kind of work. I worked in construction for 8 years building apartment buildings. Now I watch all I can find. Some are better than others. I would rate yours near the top.

I appreciate that. Im definitely not a pro builder but I try really hard to do it the right way.

If you have a splice in the sill plate you will need an anchor witching 12” on both sides of the splice. FYI also I would use 1/2” anchor bolts but not sure code in your area

Yeppers. Anchor bolt. NOT nails and glue

What is the crack running along the plane of your beam starting around 12:23 time mark? Is that a different way of providing a relief "cut" instead of making an actual cut in the slab, post cure? Seems like in your crawl space slab pour video, your concrete guys were inserting something kind of like a long bladed shape with a black edge about here in your crawl space slab, but then pulling it out rather than leaving it in place. Is that what this crack is all about? Your build is fortuitous for me as I also want to build my timber frame on a 4 foot conditioned crawl space and your build has introduced me to some nice implementation touches I was not aware of like your perforated footer forms and interior brick ledge stem walls. Very cool. I was toying with going ICF for my crawl space walls. Your build gives me some additional ideas to research.

Didn't you already find termites on that land? Down here in the south we install the foam 2-4" below the framing to provide a gap for termite inspections. The lost in insulation is worth the ability to find termites before they cause problems.

Just started watching again I see your helper is an older guy like me I am 65 still work full time as a finish carpenter. I am ok financially but prefer to work . If you look back in history like our ancestors they worked into their 70’s and 80’s why? No social retirement benefits! Good hard work is pleasing to God ! “ by the sweat of your brow”! Good job !

It’s funny to see a woodworker using those rigid foam insulation panels as insulation instead of a surface to breakdown plywood with a track saw 😂

Are you considering using the crawlspace as the plenum for heating and cooling?
@ThirdCoastCraftsman Жыл бұрын
yup
@cj-ef1rp Жыл бұрын
Two things: instead of poly iso insulation, you might have used mineral wool batts. Termites and rodents can’t survive in it, plus you don’t need any fire barrier. Yes, by code your crawlspace doesn’t require fire treatment on those rigid batts, but from a family safety perspective, you should seriously consider it.
@ThirdCoastCraftsman Жыл бұрын
Thanks, yea I'll probably add some of the fire retarding paint stuff that Ive seen. Seems like an easy to apply solution over adding drywall

Galvinized screws into those brackets next time. Screws have less of a chance of backing out vs nails.

Fascinating! Just curious, why not use lag bolts to hold the beams together? I'm sure nails and glue are fine, just wondering.

I'm bummed....I thought you were gonna drill all the holes by hand and then cut those huge beams with a handsaw. Lol....just kidding. But seriously, my man's a beast! Chris wrestled those boards around alone and then dropped them in place! Take a good look ladies...this is what a real man looks like. Works hard, gets dirty and no product in his hair.....🤣🤣🤣 Great video. Can't wait to see more. Be safe and try not to blow your back out bud. You might still need it after the house is done. Lol

Glue? They just analyzed a town where a tornado came thru. All the 1960's houses with nailed-down sill plates/beams were destroyed. Oops
@ThirdCoastCraftsman Жыл бұрын
Where is this info located at. I’d be interested in seeing it. Unless it’s brick, concrete, or cinder blocks, not much is going to stand up to a tornado. They are arguably the most destructive force on earth… and pretty rare, I don’t think very practical or economical to build with the idea that the structure needs to be able to withstand a tornado. Unless you like underground bunkers 🙂
