Really interesting to see this. Also could be relevant for the machine industry as HMI plays a big role in this market and the current ones doesn't have half of this features.

HMI = human machine interface. Eg the operating screen in a Tesla

Does Unreal Engine support ASIL-B/SIL-2 or greater when executing on QNX or similar? So far it seems to be only for non-safety related display/functionality, is this correct?

Hey Kim, So far safety critical uses have been architected to be separate from UE visualizations, and UE itself, like all other important HMI applications, is hooked up to the QNX High Availability Manager (HAM). The HAM is a watchdog that instantly restarts applications that crash, so that there is little to no down time. We are aware of safety certification and are considering solutions to this.

When will this demo project be available? I cannot find it anywhere. Do you have plans to support patterns like MVVM? What about templates and vector UI / icons instead of pictures? Can we have a section on the main forum on HMI?

This is all fantastic but I have a question that might be the most important thing in all this (and forgive me if this has been mentioned)... Are you going to be able to install the final code as an OS and not as an app? Because if you can’t then it is a bit useless.

yea but how does one design the HMI in Unreal , Do you have any tutorials coming up? in this video there are premade assets

Honestly i would love to know that too. There are no tutorials what so ever on how to create such HMIs, especially if we talk about the design.

It's pretty much the same as designing game UI, except you have input data from the real car.

When I saw this youtube title I thought they were talking about using virtual HMI lights in unreal engine environments (they are quite popular in real life video productions).

HMI means, Human Machine Interface. It is an industrial way of saying UI (user interface)

I would have enjoyed this video, if you had explained what HMI means before using the term 25 times in the 1st 4:40 seconds. That is as far as I can stay without knowing what it means.

Don't worry, if you don't know what HMI stands for you are not part of the target audience of this particular webinar. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

@@55macmen22 It doesn't work like that, just like an "Unreal for Archviz" webinar wouldn't necessarily teach you about either Architecture OR Archviz. But it would be instead an introduction for people already working in the field, explaining how to adapt Unreal into your actual workflow, or replacing your actual tools with UE4, etc. They are not going to teach you a new profession in a 30 minute webinar.

@@retorique Thanks for clarifying. but what you said is also something you could learn, even if you haven't reached that point. The information they are giving you is quite valuable. It's just a bit easy to understand if you know what they are talking about.
