So picking the right college is NOT just aesthetic - it can have an impact on your build. I will address this at the start of the next episode. Huge shout out to Cris Aghemo for pointing this out!

Even more, at the very beginning of every campus you have available one college. In liberal arts campus I believe it's Police Academy, so you can build it without waiting for level up. Great video, great build!!
@ifailatgaming41533 жыл бұрын
at 11:45 you stated that you have to give a research grant, and that the research grant had a chance to succeed based on the academic work creation chance, this is not correct, they are seperate, and you can in fact gain 2 works 1 semester due to this

So the different unique departments available in each campus DO have an in game effect. For example, the School of Environmental Studies (Liberal Arts college) decreases city wide garbage accumulation, or the School of Tourism and Travel (Trade School) Increases income from all commercial zones. That means picking a particular campus over the others will have an effect on the city.

Any time I see a high grade paths in the game I will just imagine it is actually just stairs. I really wish we could have some of those. The high school I went to was on top of a hill. You had two choices to get there. The bendy road or the steep staircase. I would love to detail some hills with staircases!

Something i like to do in vanilla with campus is , when i start my city i always leave greenspace around my highschool and elementary schools firstly for a safe fenced green space and park but later on when i get to make the university campus i upgrade the highschool and elementary areas using the smaller campus buildings..The caretaker house, The Dance club, Art Club, Futsal and so on .. Those small buildings not only give your highschool and elementary areas a custom look but it also spreads your higher education coverage for citizens that don't wanna travel to the main university thus also reducing a tiny bit of traffic. I pretend they're like those buildings where you stay at School for higher education rather than go to university. & i just find it a really effective use of those buildings for vanilla players :)

I feel like the housing area you added near the university would have been more appropriate to be high density rather than low density. You'd expect college students to be moving into apartments of some sort rather than single family homes. You could probably make low density look better with some themes, but you'd have to be pretty picky.
@anhack132 жыл бұрын
Depends on the city/town. My undergrad university was in a small town in an old part of the city. The nearest off campus apartments were over a mile away. My Master's university was in a newer part of another small town nesstled into a bunch of single family housing and the nearest apartment complexes were 3-4 miles away at least.
@thatrandomnoob8611 Жыл бұрын
Some cities have both. UofL in Louisville, Ky where I graduated from has higher density housing to the north of campus but to the east and south the campus is flanked by single family homes. With a train yard to the west of campus so not as much housing that direction. Like A&M theres trains that cut through campus, but they are cargo only. We also have a bus line that follows the edge of campus allows students to use it to get to and from the main parking lot as well as getting them from one side of campus to the other without walking. Since there’s no commuter parking in game it’s not really necessary but I try and replicate that in my builds if I can.

The campus special buildings are more than esthetic. For instance the police academy will boost your police force, the medical school will boost health care. Also when you start a campus 1 of 3 of these special buildings can be placed immediately, you didn't scroll down to the end. I do like the build, you just missed some information.

So when you want to get academic works, you can get it in 2 ways. You can assign staff to a research project, you will get the award over time depending on how much money a week you put into it. It just means not 100% guaranteed in one academic year. (A percentage every year until 100% and award.) Or you can do a research grant, which is 100% guarantee you will get the award in the next year. Also, for the university to get the benefits of the library, shouldn't you bring the campus zone over it? It's like extending industry zones, otherwise it's just a library for regular use with only normal city benefits. You also moved the wrong park in the campus area. You moved the statue park instead of putting the fountain park back in place.

The campus layout and unique beautiful architecture reminds me of Iowa State University in Ames, IA. I work in emergency management/grants development and one of our trickiest things to navigate with applicants is making sure they're requesting funds that benefit everyone they're responsible for. I found it very interesting how the use of school buses by the public is similar to this in the US because of funding eligibility requirements.
@kelsanswer2 жыл бұрын
While technically true in some circumstances, each state will have their laws concerning buses. In mine, the only time you will see non-students on a school bus is when there is an extra curricular activity, such as an away-game for football or baseball, or perhaps in an emergency situation where the school district will rent buses. You will never see a random person getting onto a school bus. In fact, if someone did, the bus driver would most likely call the police and the person would be arrested/charged with trespassing and/or endangering students. If the driver decided to randomly pick someone up, they would themselves be charged.

Hey, I love this series but one thing is bothering me a bit and it's transit. Tutoria needs more bus lines, especially in the industrial system. Right now it's a bit of a weird car dependant city. Outside the US it's not really common to have such a high dependency on cars, at the very least industrial workers should have bus lines to get to the factories. Ideally there would be some rail transportation. There is a lot of space available to extend passenger train lines all the way down to the zoo if desired. Hope you look at that in the next episode. Anyway nice video

I've seen steeper paths than that in real life at a real-life university. Butte, Montana to be specific. It's actually a technical college but my point being is that the area where the college is located is very, very hilly and the hills are steep. This is also Montana so you can only imagine what it is like in the winter. So a patch at that grade isn't out of the realm of possibility.
@CityPlannerPlays3 жыл бұрын
Yikes! I bet there are more than a few slips on those!
@krisculin96793 жыл бұрын
@@CityPlannerPlays I have been told that the university is very good about keeping them clear in the winter with a good layer of salt to melt the snow and sand for traction. Students adapt to the environment well enough. If you're going to school in Montana, you have no choice. Now, Montana State in Bozeman where I went to school had underground heating pipes that kept the main areas clear since the heat would warm the paths and melt the snow. But MSU is mostly flat with few hills. Having a mountain bike for transportation from the dorm to the main part of campus helps a lot.

It occurred to me because of this video that my university campus doesn't actually have a ton of desire paths. This is probably at least partially due to the amount of paving (there are a lot of streets and paths and one whole section of campus is actually all paved because it's its own roof) but even where there is a ton of grass, no defined paths. Also I am light heartedly judging the amount of space between your dorms. That's so far. (I've never played, this is from the perspective of a college student.)
