Usually in Schematic diagram point types are mentioned (DI, DO, AI, AO) from where you can develop the IO list. If it is mentioned then you need you can see datasheet of the field devices being used to see the point types.While fan points are well defined. You can also watch my videos about field devices to get more idea.
