Crane Stance is surprisingly fitting, as that is usually also what cartoon/comedy characters use when they pretend to know martial arts. Either that or Tiger Stance, but usually they do "the one leg up, arms above head" thing.

A player of mine did a sonic build a while ago. We didn't have awakened animal back then, so he was a gnome half elf with animal instinct (hedgehog). It fit the unarmored and unarmed bill you put out and had GREAT speed with sudden charge and Fast Movement.

For the Mario build, I know it don't fit much, but grippli at lv9 have a feat called "ricocheting leap" that gives them the ability to jump on the head of an enemy

To make Sonic even faster, I'd recommend the 3rd party supplement Files for Everybody: Zoomer Archetype from Rogue Genius Games, an archetype that's basically "what if the Flash, but in Pathfinder 2e?"

I slightly feel weird about the Awakened Animals since game material tends to treat the antropomorphic animals from Sonic different than the normal animals. Still, I didn't know Awakened Animals could be so granular in how they're built. While I would build Mario different (with more inspiration from the Mario RPGs), the fun of this is to see how different people make different builds.

Sure. I've seen people argue he should be a magus, or sorcerer, but I feel the core of the character as 'stop on head, jump really high' leans monk. Plus in Super Mario RPG (waaaaaay back on the SNES) Mario could beat up people with his fists, so that's monk-like too.

Most GMs I know let me play characters with silly Ideas so long as I play the character somewhat straight. I made a character based off the 'Diggy Diggy Hole' meme and if you didn't know that was what I was going for, he's just a normal dwarven bard.

Sonic and Mario were both games born of the 90's. Games were all pretty similar back then. Side scrolling platformers. Because you know, it's the 90's before the days of 3d graphics.

I mean, yes, but also, Legend of Zelda was from this time, Castlevania, Metroid, all of which had kinda a different way of doing things.

Step 1) Wait for Starfinder to come out. Step 2) Awakened Animal (opossum) Step 3) Fighter in Plate Mail. Maybe an archetype that gives our guy speed like scout Step 4) Grab Jetpack from Starfinder

I don't know, mario is a hammer wielder and fireball wielder too (and airplane bomber).

I mean, yeah, you can't get everything. But like I said, for fireball, get him sorcerer dedication for ignition. And for hammers, it's not perfect, but maybe grab monastic weaponry for the Bo Staff? It's not a maul, but maybe your GM would let you reflavor it?

Depends on which Link. And how much you want to lean into them having magic or not. I feel, maybe a sparking Targe magus for both good melee attacks and magic? Or if you want to ditch magic, ranger probably.
