Smartest thing I saw on this video was the three leg design. MUCH easier to level 3 legs than 4. If this were mine, I'd come up 1/4 - 1/3 the distance from bottom and drill 1/2" holes 3" apart.

What you really need is an Evolution S210CCS (it’s a worm drive saw that can cut up to 2” in thickness). It will make cutting those tanks much easier.

GREAT point about burning off the paint and not saturating the air with the paint dust. Superb! Leo

I have one of these, but a bit smaller. They are fantastic and last forever. Mine has a 3/16 plate steel sniffer (lid) which is a nice addition. Handles are welded on and it’s easy for two people to set it on top to put out the fire and keep whatever wood and coals nice and dry for the next fire. It’s a nice add on and way to make a little more money.

My parents have one made from the back of a train tanker. It has three circles cut out of the bottom to allow for air to be pulled in. Really is a great design.

An inexpensive sandblaster from hobo fright or your friends at Vevor might come in handy, too, and for lots other things. Also, it might be interesting to see the patina that comes from seasoning one like a BBQ pit - grease it up a few times on the outside once you're down to bare metal and burn that in. I'm an old salt mechanic who appreciates rust as patina but some may not and would be willing to re-season a couple of times a year to maintain that - if that gets to be too much of a hassle they can always use rust as a fallback plan, it's always waiting in the wings ready to take over lol :) Cheers! Catch you later in the stream.

Too far away and not even gonna ask for shipping, lol. You can buy just tank ends for those who don't know, and make your own or find a local welder to add the feet. 1000% love the build and I'm sure they'll be sold before the video makes a few days old. Awesome pits!!
@TKCL
@TKCL 5 ай бұрын
I've only ever seen the ends for sale once. They don't seem to be common here, plus the deep ends are not made anymore that I can find. Those were in the tanks from the 60s and 70s. Most newer ends are much flatter.

You don't add holes on the side to let some of the heat out

No need, the metal gets cherry red at times. I promise you that it gets hot. Plus those holes allow embers to fall out staining concrete and starting grass fires.

I had a neighbor that built one out of a skidder rim. He “painted” his the same you season cast iron, but used cooking spray. (Not the inside, just the outside). That would get too hot, after the steel started glowing, you couldn’t get close to it
