I Purchased my '82 Mark IIb factory direct, as there were no dealers here back then. Ordered it without a speaker so that it could be shipped with UPS, then slipped a EVM 12 into it. 40 years on and the only maintenance its needed is the output capacitors replaced (twice) and the channel relay had to be replaced. I've owned a Mark III Hardwood, Mark IV rackmount, and a colorful collection of hot rodded blackface Bassmans and Princetons, but I always come back to my blond tolex Mark IIb. Thanks for the decades of memories its given me. Cheers!

I was in the Navy and operated the Mark 8 boats for one of my jobs. They have 2- 12 cylinder Detroit diesel engines in them, It would drive me crazy if the engines wobbled in and out of tune like a guitar being out of tune. I would get the engines screaming and had to back down on the Port side engine to get them to sound and sync up exactly the same. Ever notice in a plane sometimes you can hear the wobble of the engines not running in sync? Where Im going with this is Ive had a MarkIII for many years, there is sweet spot in one of the places that I play that I have actually marked the floor and put my amp in the exact spot so the room works with my amp, almost like the room is tuned to the amp. Yes it may sound crazy and probably is but thats ok. It only happens in this particular building. It reminds me hearing the Mark 8s engines synced up and while standing in the little Pilot house where you drive it. Everything is in perfect harmony with each other from the floor vibrations to the almost stereo effects from the room. I really enjoyed your videos and thank you for sharing your stories.

Hey Randy, I’m a professional musician and touring guitar tech from the East Bay/SF and I’ve had the pleasure of owning a number of Boogies starting with a Mark III when I was 15 years old, followed over the years by a single rectoverb, three channel dual rec, two channel triple rec, stiletto deuce stage two, Mark V, Mark IV, and currently one of the guitarists I tech for has a rig centered around a Badlander 100. Needless to say I am a huge fan of the brand and legacy you’ve created and these videos are such a treat to listen to on my nightly walks around the Richmond district and I wanted to thank you for taking the time to share all these stories. Mark IIB - my first and only Boogie. It had a fantastic clean sound, but as 19 year-old, I couldn't figure out how to get a Santana lead tone without messing up the clean sound. The shared tone controls limited me. I guess what I needed was a true channel switcher.

I want to know if you ever took the Mark II for a spin at sears point and how fast was it. I bought a new Mark III red stripe and had a hell of a night when I got home cranking that thing. Never heard an amp get to scream levels so fast. The next day when I got home from work I turned it on and all hell broke loose. Sounded like a big crash at Sears Point. I went back to the store in San Jose and swapped all the tubes and it still wasn't right. Called up mesa and explained to them what happened and I was told to bring it by. I lived in Hayward at the time. Got there at 10 am and sat in that pretty boring waiting room until 4 pm. Kept asking when I would get my amp. It finally came out and when I asked what happened to it, the guy didn't look happy and mumbled something. But it wasn't a new amp, so they did fix it. BTW it wasn't Randall that I talked to. I still play that amp to this day along with a few other mesa amps I've bought and never had a problem with it except squealing tubes on occassion. Thanks Randall for an amp that made all the gigs I played over the years so kickass fun. Double stacked the combo on a 1x12 closed back and it sure looked cool up there on stage. 🤘

Put a new 15in bass speaker and use it as a bass amp! So it was a guitar amp? Sounds great for bass!

LOVE YOUR STORIES. If I may -- My respect for Hoboes. Knew a guy who was a real Hobo. Rode trains and had a big booze problem. Call him H. H also was trained by old school body men in how to weld and repair metal on cars and trucks. The kind of guy who scoffed at Bondo and literally did most repairs with a hammer, some solder and maybe a welding torch. So I hire him to do some bodywork on one mashed up fender. Put him to work in my garage , buy him lunch and leave him alone for 5-6 hours. H did a spectacular job -- just a little primer and color and the fix was perfect. I paid him his requested price and even tipped him 40 bucks on top (still was hundreds cheaper than any bodyshop). Then days later there was a disgusting smell coming from a trash can. I investigate and I find human feces very neatly deposited among about 20 pages of newspaper - folded up like a Christmas present. While this WAS gross it was the Hobo way. See H was too polite to ask to use my bathroom (which I of course would have allowed him to use) he took care of it on his own. He didn't drop trou and poop in my garden - no he did it the Hobo way. If you have ever seen the Skid Row sections of any major city H's way is far superior than what goes on now.

Loving the content! Thank you! Question - any info on what James Hetfields Mesa Triaxis "CrunchBerry" mod is? Is anyone still doing these mods? Read somewhere it's a phase inversion mod or something.
@TheGgreen10013 күн бұрын
Hetfield's Crunchberries amp is a IIC+ head with a "++" mod done to it. The mod increases the amp's gain. It's a different mod than the phase inversion mod he had done to one of his Triaxis preamps in his Triaxis rig. He wanted to blend the Lead 2 Yellow mode (IIC+ preamp) of one Triaxis, and the Lead 1 Red mode (Recto preamp) of another Triaxis. Normally, those modes are out of phase with each other, which means they sound bad when you blend them, so he had the phase of one of those modes reversed, which put the two modes in phase with each other, which allowed him to blend them properly. Also in his Traixis rig, he had a rack unit with two hidden Mesa 5-band EQ's, each wired to one of the two active Triaxis preamps.
@MenashaMunitions13 күн бұрын
@@TheGgreen100 thanks, wasn't sure if anyone ever confirmed the CrunchBerry modded Triaxis was indeed phase inversion - did a lot of digging but didn't find much. Yes, the similarities between the SLO and Dual Rectifier are too numerous to be coincidental. Every new amp is built upon what came before (even the "Mark" is built upon the Fender AB763 circuit), but I'd like to hear the story there. I know Randall did say it was to be their take on the "hot rodded Marshall" thing. After all, the 5150 did copy similar bits from the SLO (but modified for higher gain, and later tighter gain), cause Eddie had Peavey work off the SLO as a starting point.
