For a guy that hasn’t done lots on frames you seem to have a good handle on your project. It’s going to be interesting to watch your progress ....

l appreciate you saying that. Often question myself having so little experience.

Don't forget to consider your driveline angle . When I built my 69 Camaro I had to shim it a good bit to get the correct angle. By the way, I have a 67 Chevy II I am building . It is stripped down and on the rotisserie. I live north of you in Prattville, AL.

Good point. I'm at 2.4 degrees...

Hey man, I’m looking to build a 1st gen camaro from scratch in the future. Any tips?

First thing I thought when he said I can just move it to be inline with the rails. 2.4 is only 1/3rd of the equation with a single piece drive shaft.

Thinking about building a go kart like a good one with a 4 cylinder engine and universal transmission, mid engine set up. So I trying to figure out how to build a chassis

Im looking to build a frame for a 72 xr7 on the farm. Its sadly got rusted out from being in the grass since it was parked is 1986. Its all still there enough i can get the measurements and angles from it but its structurally shot. Done some research and found the cougar and mustang from that era shares similar setup but wheel base is different. It has sentimental value and dont care about show quality perfection just safety.

Were can I get additional information on how to a frame do have any book or online resources you could recommend or were their classes you took.

Hmm. I'm afraid not. I have an engineering degree, so that helps, but tbh, just looking at dozens of hours of other people's frames for ideas and a general understanding probably helped more than anything. It's not rocket science.

How’s the project going? I’m thinking of buying a 68/9 corvette and I’m thinking of building a modern frame for it.

Do you have any advice for someone looking to get in to this now that a year has passed? I have a 1973 plymouth scamp, it’s a unibody car, that the underside is rotting but the body is in pretty good shape and the car runs brilliantly. Would it be best to try and repair the extensive damage already done or build it onto my own frame sort of deal. I just need a good place to start.

So, the two routes you've proposed are hugely different. Building a frame requires a frame jig, welder, lots of fabrication equipment, etc. The first thing you have to do is decide what you're building. Are you building a car or restoring a car? Be aware the chances the bottom side of the car is badly rusted, but the body is fine, is not very likely. Once you start removing the windows and removing old paint/bondo you're likely going to find it's worse than expected. 99% of the time that's the case. Good luck!

@@RedlineStands Hopefully I'm restoring a car. But I'll just have to see. :)

On the exhaust, I've seen cars that use a wide flat tube. Because it's exhaust, there is no law requiring you to use round tube. It's an option. Might get more flow if it's wide enough. Got admit though, everything is setup for round tube.

round tube flows much better than rectangular or square.

LOL. No way man. I manned-up last year and built my own chassis. Turned out great and I learned a lot.
