I’m 47. 11.7% bf, 6 pack abs. To summarize: I don’t count macros, 8hr window (10am-6pm): 3 meals + 2 snacks (all include protein). Whole, non process food. Workout 8-9am: Weight room 4-5 times a week, 40 min each session, 2 days of cardio, HIIT (timed 100m, 200m, 400m, 100 burpees, burpees with a weighted vest) 2-3 days of full body stretching + 10k - 13k steps every day. I been getting stronger and more fit with age. I’m very surprised myself. 1 main advice: With each workout, each day, I make sure I progress in just 1 thing! 1 set, 1 rep, 1 sec, 1 lb, .5lb, .0001lb , no progression is too small. Basically, improve on your performance in some way with each workout and your body composition will follow. Ppl think of body composition changes before performance improvement. Over years, it adds up! Stay strong!

I completely agree with this approach, I have been fasting for the past few years and tried different combinations of workout timing and food intake and found that what has been said in this video to be the best. The only issues i had that i did need to elevate the quality of my food and that can get expensive. The other issue that elevating vitamin D intake without combining Vitamin K2 can cause some issues. Finally, I wasn’t able to stay active without fixing what I believe to be minerals imbalance by eating a lot of greens for potassium and taking quality magnesium supplement.

I took up weightlifting at age 65. One of the best decisions I have ever made. I will be 71 in 3 months. I can now deadlift 320, squat 360 and bench press 255. As you age your body naturally stops producing as much testosterone. My doctor recommended a testosterone cream which I apply topically. It is very common among older men and helps your libido as well. Many women take estrogen supplements for most of their lives. Eat more protein, take creatine and whey protein powder. Weight lifting makes denser, stronger bones, it protects your ligaments, tendon and joints. I work out 5 days a week for 2 hours a day. The key is to train a different muscle group each day...legs one day, back and shoulders another day, chest and arms another day...so you don't over stress and give your muscles a chance to grow. Another key is progressive overload. Keep increasing the weight. Go heavy. It really has become my passion...I have made a lot of friends and everyone is helpful at the gym. Some loss of height is inevitable but you can slow it down with muscle growth and posture correction. Bigger, wider shoulders and standing tall, not slumped, will make a big difference in your perceived height.

@Taiwo Omotosho There are many alternatives to whey. You can find Soy protein powder, pea protein powder at a good sports nutrition store. Actually I stopped taking whey because I have a mild milk allergy. I simply eat a lot of protein (eggs, chicken, beef, fish, nuts). I eat 4 eggs for breakfast.

Great video although I generally believe the advice for building muscle in your 40's is no different than when you were younger, assuming you have no major health issues. 40 something is still young for strength gains. Building muscle only starts to become genuinely more difficult past 50. If you have built a solid foundation in your 20's and 30's than you probably easily maintain most of that muscle way into your 60's without external hormonal assistance.

at 10:50 you nailed it, I discovered this, i'm 51, I recently watched Eddie Hall set a world record for the dumbell incline, at the end of the video he said that it took him three and a half hours in the gym to get there! so I tried it and when I get tired I sit until the energy comes back so I do a lot more and with great results and no injuries (that's key it has to be sustainable) so good one Thomas.

45 y.o. with type 1 diabetes with insulin resistance (type 2). I want to put on muscle, but nothing works. From the blood glucose/insulin situation, it's not advised that I fast. My blood glucose is not an issue, I can care for myself. The problem is having the energy to work out. Intermittent fasting is very difficult despite times when I have zero appetite. Cardio is effective for weight loss, which follows consistency in the cardio area. I do my best, issues always emerge. Thanks for your channel, helps me out a lot. I have to watch to keep the info. in working memory. Thank you man. - M.

YOU do NOT need to apologize at all for taking the time to share this info. I am 59 years old and damn I think I almost want to cry because I have watched many videos bruh, and I sat here riveted to hearing why I was struggling, and I have NEVER heard anyone explain it with such CARE AND CONCERN as you. I will not watch another video on this subject. I will watch this one again and again and try an implement what said. The ONLY REAL SAD PART FOR ME (chuckle) is I AM ADDICTED to working out here at my gym in THAILAND AT 2,3, 4 in the morning. I really can't and don't want to do the afternoon thing. When I am in the gym I have the entire gym to myself and there is something very peaceful and I tend to focus better. PLEASE. PLEASE tell me I can still do this although I work out 2 3 4 IN THE MORNING. But thank you a million times for this video and forgive this LONG ASS POST!

I’m 39, still wake up with morning wood and recently this year started keto. Dropped 20 pounds but once I started lifting again the muscle memory kicked in and started building muscle. My weight hasn’t dropped like how I wanted to but I believe I’m gaining muscle which is why the scale is not moving. Always had trouble trying to lose fat and build muscle but not with keto.
