I use a drill too, with the torque turned down of course. But I at least start the bolts by hand with a wrench to avoid cross threading and ruining the hub. Baby steps. You'll have it soon enough. The color at least is Big Bird approved.
@Ali_Clarkson Жыл бұрын
True but I’ve now put in 60 bolts (multiple bikes and a couple of wheels multiple times) and it doesn’t seem like stripping is likely if they’re started really slowly

I love that the hex now stays largely the same each release, and it's just fettling now. It peaked a couple years ago and there's really not a lot that could make it any better. In a good way. I think I watch your videos equally for the cat as the bikes and riding. Very tasteful build as always. Are you planning on visiting Malverns classic this year?
@Ali_Clarkson Жыл бұрын
Yeah I can’t really think of many ways it could be improved, maybe mounts for 203mm rotors? It’s pretty dialed otherwise 🤘🏻
@customerisalwaysrigh Жыл бұрын
@@Ali_Clarkson yeah makes sense, i don't really know of any trials riders that opt for smaller rotors.
@spottedmarley Жыл бұрын
Maybe a dumb question to ask about a trials bike but why do you need the chain tension-er on a single speed hard tail build? My first thought is maybe you want it to take up the slack caused by chain stretch? .. is that correct? Rad bike my friend
@Ali_Clarkson Жыл бұрын
You need some way to take up the slack in the chain…either horizontal dropouts you can slide the wheel back in or if you have a 12mm axle (like this has) you’d need some sort of sprung tensioner (or you can combine the two and have 12mm sliding dropouts but they’re usually more flexible than you’d like for trials). If you can picture my bike without a tensioner the chain would be really baggy and slap about making lots of noise and potentially even coming off the sprockets. My last bike didn’t have any tensioner though as my 22-18 gear ratio and 380mm chainstays is practically the perfect distance, it’s not perfect though as it can be too tight with a new chain and a worn one ends up being a bit baggy (especially when putting power down)…a tensioner is just a fail safe way of doing it

Alright drillboy! Haters gonna hate but we used to drive the M5 taps into all the frame holes with drills at the touring bicycle company when prepping frames for builds or frame sales and VERY rarely had an issue. Pretty sure those different settings you showed us will have different torques though, technically.

Try kenda small block 8. They make them in 26 x 2.35 size. Best feeling tire I've ever had, but wears out quickly
@frankthetankricard Жыл бұрын
You can insert an 8mm and a 5mm allen key at the same time to turn Shimano crank bolts. Not the best fit but will do the job and save big bucks on calipers. :D Also your drill's Auto setting (next to the Hammer and Drill modes) is a function for driving screws. It senses the screw (bolt in this case) bottoming out and stops applying full torque.

The Billy Bonkers aren't actually tubeless ready, right? All variants I found require a tube as per official statement. How come you run them tubeless?
@Ali_Clarkson Жыл бұрын
Any tyre can be tubeless, just some aren’t advertised as being tubeless “ready” (IE they don’t have sealed sidewalls). Adding sealant to a normal tyre will eventually seal the sidewalls but it just might take a little longer until it does and becomes fully air tight
@petefunny48810 ай бұрын
Makes sense, thanks for your response. Yeah, I ended up getting them as well and run them in a tubeless setup and they are great for what I am doing.

Is there a reason you opted for Shimano instead of SRAM gx like you did some previous years?
@Ali_Clarkson Жыл бұрын
I don’t really like using alloy axle cranks after seeing Hope ones snap and DUB cranks rotate around theirs. They stopped making the GXP model so finding new ones is getting harder and harder. Shimano have always made decent cranks in my opinion but they had a fixed 4-bolt spider so you couldn’t get a nice low profile bash…now they have a removable spider and Inspired make a bash for them it’s a no brainier to use this combo
