You're right, it's an Austrian brand (well, used to be). They used to design snow boards as well. Heavy tools bikes became HiTec bikes around the year of 2000. It used to be a pretty cool and authentic company supporting local talents. The Austrian dual slalom scene was kind of dominated by folks riding those green HiTec dual slalom frames. They even built DH Bikes with 24" wheel back and 26" front (mullet, marzocchi monster T, Gazzalotti 3.0 tires). Unfortunately the founder passed away shortly after the brand HiTec was founded... Bought the same trials frame there exactly 25 years ago - but on mine it says "booster stays" 😅 Sold it to a friend who later became Austrian trials Champion (not on this frame though cause it broke 😅)

Racing Ralph vs Maxxis ikon? Recommendations please I have a jump bike I use for street and rocks and DJ and forest riding so which do you think would be better? I currently am using the continental crossking, they seem to cut easily but never burp... and im riding tubless

The Racing Ralph and Ikon are very close in my opinion, can’t go wrong with either

Was it difficult to put the magura rim brake on that bmx frame? Maybe you can do a video on that?
@Ali_ClarksonКүн бұрын
It was pretty difficult, I had to modify the v-brake adaptors quite a bit and being honest I wouldn’t really trust their strength for harsh riding

How do you know the length of spikes when you don’t have a name brand or know the brand name of wheel?
@Ali_Clarkson4 күн бұрын
There are methods to find a rims ERD and hubs measurements. For the rim you need two spokes (length isn’t important). Thread nipples onto them until no thread is showing (can locktite them in place). Insert the spokes into opposite ends of the rim and measure the gap between the ends of the spoke. Do a bit of maths by doubling the spoke length then adding the measurement between them, for example if you used 258mm spokes, doubled would be 516 and let’s say the gap between the spokes is 52mm, that works make the rims erd 568mm. If the rim is small the spokes might overlap, in this case measure that overlap instead. By using a vernier calliper you can measure the diameter of the hubs flanged where the spoke holes are. The other info you’ll need is how far the flanges sit from the centre of the hub, use the calliper to find the centre (either visualize it on a logo or mark it with a pen) then measure how far each flange sits from this point. That will give you all the info you need to put in a calculator (or give to a shop) to get the right spoke length

Here for you Ali! I can definitely emphasise with you on the KZbin struggles. I believe the weekly upload cadence is more for people starting out on KZbin so they can iterate more often, and not get disheartened with poor performance. Really wouldn't worry about that or "The KZbin algorithm punishing you" if you don't upload. At the beginning of 2024 I took 3 months off KZbin (no uploads and nothing banked in terms of content) and yet 2024 was my best ever year in terms of growth and viewership. As you've identified that KZbin is a primary source of income, I'd really advocate for planning videos in advance, and making them for the audience, not necessarily yourself. There's loads of videos I want to make, but often these don't translate into views/income. Audience first. Great to hear that you're hitting the gym! There's so much of our identity wrapped up in bikes, so to have another outlet when riding hasn't been available because of injury is golden. Sounds like this is the worst of it, only up from here! and if ever you want to talk KZbin strategy, I'd love to learn more!

Regarding the gym. You’re an ELITE athlete even if you’re not at the absolutely peak of your own abilities. You’re every bit as at home and relevant inside a gym as a guy with massive muscles benching 300lbs.

Serratus anterior strikes again. I've been rehabbing inactive lats and serratus along with over active traps for years. In the last year, with lots of time in the gym (and time off the bike), I've finally started making progress. All the rehab exercises in the world do no good if you can't feel the muscles that need to work, working. It's a grind, but it can be done. Good luck with the recovery and all the rest! I've been inspired by your riding for years, but I have to admit to watching less youtube, and less bike youtube specifically. I once used the platform for inspiration and skills development, but even though I still am not a particularly good rider, I've gotten my riding to a point where I'm happy enough to just enjoy the sport as a participant. The result is that I don't find myself as engaged with content, and what I am now watching is related to new hobbies so that I can explore the beginners mindset again. It's really nice to take on something new and be shit at it. The progress happens so rapidly as a beginner that it's great for the ego. The gym has been that for me the last 4 months, it's been really nice. Easy for me to say when it's not my job, but it seems like you've got a pretty good sense for how to work your way out of things. If you can, therapy might help too, that's another thing I've added to my schedule and it's been really eye opening and quite helpful for my depression, it's just tough to find someone who is a good fit.

Chronic pain can really put a hamper on your mood, all day every day. I've struggled with my neck myself over the years. Whenever I've been able to see some progress it's had a huge impact on every aspect of my life, including my grump ;) Also, I've enjoyed your channel all the way. It feels genuine, which is why it's a highlight of my week - aside from the bike skills, and the best voiceover scripts for bike builds this world has ever laid eyes on. You inspired me to buy an old trial bike (monty 220 from 2012 I believe), tear it apart and paint it a few summers ago, and dust off the old basic skills - which I enjoyed a lot.

Sorry to hear all this. Don't know anything about jane but if you have split up you need to move out and move on. No other woman is going to start dating you if you are still living with your ex. Likewise no self-respecting bloke is going to start dating Jane. Wait till one of you does meet someone else, then the true feelings will come out. Just saying.

I feel for you buddy. last year was a bit of wash for me as well for similar reasons. I think a big thing that could really help is to try to work with other people, and do more collabs. Do not doubt your legend status, I'm sure anyone you ask, Danny, Duncan, Sam, Tom, Kara etc. would be stoke to go for a rip with you. I work freelance, and being a one man band really takes it out of you. I realized recently that when I'm working with other people, I come home much happier than the days I don't work with people. I find when you're grumpy, you tend to withdraw from people, when really you need to surround yourself with active, positive people more than ever. You're in a great position with great connections that I think that if you expand the channel from focusing mostly on your own riding, to using your platform to boost up other people, you will find great fulfillment there. Many of your best videos are when you're out with other people! Sam Pilgrim, Matt Jones, Tom Cardy, I think what has really driven them along are their supporting characters like Lewy, Jamie and Ben, and Kara. I think a lot of people love seeing progression of any kind, not necessarily just the most mind blowing stuff. Seeing Jamie nail his first backflip, or Kara conquer her fear of big gap jumps is just as satisfying and maybe even more inspiring to lesser riders than seeing Matt nail a double flip whip on ungodly huge jumps. also, as a shy, occasionally grumpy person who isn't always the best at reaching out for help, this is a great excuse to get yourself reconnected, and borrow some inspiration from others while yours may be temporarily slipping. so, lets see a ton more collabs this year! Who knows, maybe with your coaching you'll create the next Lewy, Jamie or Kara of trials!

Man hearing you talk about your relationship was difficult. I really feel for you brother. I think if you still feel you love her and youre best friends (and excuse me for being intrusive) you have to let go of pride and really try and win her back becwuse those features are what make someone a soul mate. Thinking youll be able to stay as close both emotionally and physically is unlikely once she moves onto someone else who would understandably find that uncomfortable. Sorry if this is too personal but i thought that if your willing to put it out there then reply is fair game. Peace and love brother

Hey Ali, You have some of the best content it always seems real. Things change as we age but that's just how it is. Not all your content has to be mind blowing street trials moves. I enjoy your in the shop stuff, I'd watch mtb, Shop tours, You going to events and talking to and filming other riders. Maybe get a ride on a bowered bike at a moto trials club trial. Ride the easy line and make a vid. The bike related stuff you can do without putting your body on the line is endless. Coaching is a great idea as well. Hans Rey is a the example of how to be a ageing bike rider making a living from content. Whatever you do thanks for the excellent entertainment you've already given us. I'd love to have you as part of my ''TV" time in the future but don't feel pressured do what's right for you.

It's not over-sharing. Don't dare say that. It is opening up and talking and it is essential. Especially helpful to those of your audience who may think, as you say, that you have the perfect job. Not many people in your position have the guts to talk about the pressures of performing alongside the challenges of everyday life. Kudos to you for having that courage. Keep the path.
