Second episode for my Ultimate moto setup build. I've always wanted to build a moto setup for the back of a tray with 2 bikes and useable space underneath, it also happens to resemble a cybertruck. In this episode we design and build the canopy, slide mechanism, locks, winch mounts as well as testing everything out. I do this using CAD, FEA, a CNC plasma cutter, a CNC laser cut, a CNC press-brake, MIG and TIG as well as a mix of powertools and handtools!

Those 35 min would have been a 15 episode series on any other youtube channel 😅😂 Btw you might want to look into the bottom plate of the front wheel carriage again, currently the bottom of the wheel is just held in place by friction. Adding some horizontal slots into the plate or making a larger cutout for part of the tire to fit in might prevent it from slipping out of it, especially if its wet and the tire muddy :)

I'll tag on another bit of advice for your latches, since they are to be the primary retaining mechanism. You should add a small tab/edge on the sliding carriage's striker plate, so that it captures the flap on the latch. This way, you pull the carriage past the lock, and then back it off. The flap rests against the current back edge of the striker and is retained by the tab/lip so that it cannot come undone unless you lift the entire carriage again. This mechanism will be very simple to add to the existing, and it will provide a level of security against bumps, jostling, damage to the retaining spring, and accidental misuse. Of course you may find that, if you have made the lock and striker out of mild steel, that they self-form this feature! Very cool build, super excited to see the next episode.

Have you thought of using some over center clamps on the foot pegs . To clamp down on to a location fixture. When I have made triangle shap door I laser cut a slot on the bend line 30mm in from the edge to the point the brake press tooling can't reach. And weld up after it bent.

Hey Richard! Not sure if this is of concern to you, but your bearing nylon lock nuts for the roller bearings seem to barely engage. I believe I was told it's a standard in aerospace to have 1 thread exposed on all nylon lock nuts. Just food for thought! Build looks great! Also, most industrial mechanisms that hold any weight rely on the lock and NEVER on the cable or winch rope. Take commercial portable spot light stands they crank up and then are lowered onto the locks.
@DesignedandBuilt
@DesignedandBuilt 19 күн бұрын
Hey mate, yep agree 100%. These were off shelf one and I just wanted to test if they work! I can order some custom length threaded ones for some more cost $$$! Agree re winch rope, I will drive around resting on the locks! Cheers ☺
