This is a man that is offering his perspective on building a bugout bag ON A BUDGET as a newby. It is what it is. I admire the man for realizing the need to build a bugout bag, and his desire to help others. You can take his suggestions, until you can afford to upgrade some of the gear. Any gear is better than no gear, and he actually has things well organized. Personally, I thought he has some good ideas, and (again) I admire him for his intention on taking his bag out in the woods for some real world experience. BTW, I am ex-military, and an outdoorsman.

I appreciate this video bud. You weren't on here waxing on about a bunch of "bugout, prepping-philosophical" bullshit. The fact that you're putting forth an effort to be prepared gives you an edge up on all the nay sayers which gives you a much stronger disposition in the event you need it. Over time you will refine your kit and evolve your prepared state which I give you a long-range high-five. Keep up the good work.

Great start ! RAIN GEAR ! You have access to Gortex rain pants and jacket, yes? Get a quality poncho too. Wrap all your sub-kits in plastic. It will rain ! Expect Bug-Out to occur in the worst weather, ok? A quality hatchet will gain you access to dry fire wood inside of standing dead trees, even if the tree is wet/frozen on the outside. The clothes hanger idea wins you a STAR ! Good job.

I made a 3 day bag of cheap Amazon items and things I could find around the house. Once I had a complete bag that I knew I could get by on, I started researching the individual components of the bag, then replacing some of the lower quality items with higher quality items. I cant afford to throw a few grand at a bug out bag, but I can piece together something over time.
@christopherhill16783 жыл бұрын
As a side note though. That pocket knife in the IFAC kit, is probably TRASH. I got a similar kit with a similar knife and I could not get that knife sharp. I tried whet stones, belt grinders and even a Work Sharp electric belt sharpener. I could not get a sharp edge on that blade. The steel they used in the knife I had was horrible.

There are usually a few reasons that mosquitoes are attracted to an individual, a high potassium diet (potassium is good for you) will attract them for starters. I know a couple people who when they are planning a trip out in bug season that actually increase intake of lemon juice and mosquitoes won't come near them. Edit #2: that shovel is likely junk, you may have been better off with a little folding hand trowel. I know in many areas you can score a military surplus trifold shovel for pretty cheap. They are heavy though, as much as I love them I find myself packing one of the Cold Steel shovels more often or just a trowel. Not sure I would trust that little hatchet at all, but it should make for safe batoning of wood. That model of Fiskars saw I have been using for years and really like it and I do own Silky saws and the like. For a quality Japanese saw for a fraction of Silky cost the Tajima Gold Saw gets top marks if you ever felt the need to upgrade. One last tip, set up that tarp that came with the hammock in your yard (if you can) and give it a good dose of waterproof spray like the orange can Atsko stuff that Walmart sells. Good luck on your trip!

@ Zero 1 Def. Great start to see what works for you, one thing I would add is moleskin and an extra pair or two of non cotton socks because if something happens and you find yourself on foot your feet is going to be your most important part of your surviving.... If your feet goes down you go down. One other thing that might help, during time in service most of us would use zip ties to secure pouches to our main pack to keep from losing essential gear. Great video battle, remember when life is on the line 2 is 1 and 1 is none👍😎🇺🇸

@zero1defensellc3312 жыл бұрын

@BroMorris03413 жыл бұрын
May I suggest the following: 1. Your BoB should be focused around your BoL. If you don't know where you're going/going with then you are just a walking cache drop for the next guy. a. Also if you're going to build a BoB, the bag itself should be the one thing you should "splurge" on as it will be the very thing (other than you) ensuring you get to your BoL. b. Same with the medical. I bought that same kit & the only thing of use is the bag it came in, the rest is poopy. Mirror the Ifak you had in SWAT & just make it larger. 2. Get more bug spray. If you live in an area that is mosquito heaven then you should have a dedicated pouch to insects & how to keep them from using you as an oversized MRE lol. a. make sure that pouch (like your bag) is rotated out according to the season. 3. Good call on the Mora & definitely ditch that ax. You'll burn more calories trying to put a usable edge on it than using it lol. a. I'm a fan of using a gallon zip lock bag & stuffing it with dryer lint & flattened out TP rolls. Cotton balls & Vaseline are an excellent replacement for the candle & sterno. There good for long term storage & you already have an abundance on hand lol. 4. Wire hanger. ...Good call, gonna use that. All in all, you have a good base. it's just practicing with your bag & the items in it a regular basis. Also, check out Diesel TV's channel, real good dude (Tell him I sent you). For yourself, I would highly encourage you to take the tools & skills you already have from LE & apply them to how you can Bug Out. And again, your BoB should be focused on your BoL & if you don't have one (or some) then that should be the very first thing you plan for. Also liked & subbed.

If you had to move through urban or suburban areas and things are pretty desperate pick pockets and sneak thieving may be an issue. In Europe a favourite trick is to get kids to do it because you are a lot less likely to get violent with kids if they are caught. A set of cheap dollar store carabineers stop people opening the zippers on your pack when you are walking so easily and out of sight out of mind is no bad thing so I would move the Mora from the back of your pack and put your items like the solar charger in non see through plastic bags. Extra water proofing is a good thing and the rustling plastic is an inexpensive pick pocket alarm.

I applaud you for getting a bug out bag together, however there's LOTS of room for improvement. There's an old saying "ounces equals pounds, and pounds equals pain", that candle has got to go brother. Here's some simple tips of survival to keep in mind: The Rile of 3; "3 minutes without air, 3 hours without shelter, 3 days without water, 3 weeks without food" The 5 C's of survival; Cover, Container, Cordage, Cutting tool, Combustion device". The last saying is from Dave Canterbury who teaches survival as well as has a channel here on KZbin. I recommend that you go on an overnighter or two with your kit and try out the items to see if they will work 100%, any slight failure could spell disaster for you if SHTF happened for real. I know a lot of guys that keep an entire kit together ready in case of an actual bug out - you know, like their plate carrier, pistol belt and pack in one spot so they can grab all of that and head out the door. That way you can make room for more survival items in your pack as your pack is your line 3 gear. Look into military surplus for gear ideas, look up the Swiss M71 stove - it's basically a can of sterno with a raised platform to sit your cup on it to heat up a can of food or boil water. I can go on but you get the idea, have a good one.

@@zero1defensellc331 No problem, if you want some ideas head over to my channel and go back in my archive and take a look at my Get Home Bag (GHB) System, I did that video back in 2014 and there's been some major updates to it but the core items are still there. For example I recently had to upgrade the pack to a medium rucksack and ditched the water bottles. I'm a firm believer in military surplus as it's almost bombproof, and it's inexpensive - downside is that it's not light. Actually, there's more videos there that could give you some ideas for preparedness other than just my GHB video.

If you want to save room and weight you can make toothpaste dots on wax paper and dry them out overnight. Then sprinkle them with a little baking soda to keep them from sticking together and put them in a pill bottle. You can pretreat your socks with foot powder. Invest in at least 3 sawyer water filters. In case one becomes compromised.

Map of area and pre determined destination (choices 1,2,3,etc) Alternate communication to phone FYI .. shortwave really does not work on that radio - it is missing the lower more used spectrum. More substantial med kit I assume you have a can/bottle opener Hammock should fully enclose and be waterproof otherwise you will freeze ... assuming you are in the upper midwest. Change of clothes that can dry quickly when wet or washed. If you look like you are carrying a 'payload' people will take it from you .. go grey-er Water purification.
