One thing I learned from being in law enforcement is that, no matter where you are and what time it is, someone is milling around and has eyes on you. You can think you're in the most remote place and you're alone, but you're not. Obviously, I'm very suspicious of people because I've seen their propensity for evil, but I try to stay grounded because it takes a toll.

I think Trails is a great name for your vehicle! I have a Toyota Sienna and her name is Luna; hoping to convert her into a camper van one of these days. Love those Toyotas, can't kill them engine-wise. I agree about the salt though... my two previous Toyotas got destroyed underneath because of it. The van is going to get undercoated this summer and I'm really hoping it makes a difference! Keep doing what you do - Strength and honor!

Had an experience somewhat like this me and a few friends were camping in the Nevada desert. Near Carson city and we have been at this spot for almost 3 days now we would see a lot of people hiking or riding quads and dirt bikes during the day but on the 3rd night. We were all in the back of our own jeeps and we got woken up by 2 vehicle parked one in front of us and one behind us with their highbeams on we were all younger. But we all legally had our conceal carry permits and we definitely were armed but these cars stayed there for almost and hour before we could see them turn their lights off and back away onto the trail. We came in on. For the rest of the night we just sat in our cars until sun up and we left shortly after that. It was just to weird we didn’t want to stick around any longer. To see if it would happen again

I enjoy Luke’s videos greatly. We have narrow roads and terrain like this in the Gold Country of Northern California where I live. Unfortunately sometimes you encounter knotheads that are still looking for gold with elaborate portable dredgers on public land that are very protective of their little area.

Also encounter cartel growers! I once lived near Gold Country, but I left Occupied Territory. It was a time when grown American men started accepting the idea that government can tell a person that there is “no right to protect oneself” ! I got outta Dodge ! I was right, it’s a whole lot worse now. Everyone is cucked by Tyranny. Protect yourself man.

Hi Luke, I don’t have a Toyota 4runner which I would love to have one, but I do have Toyotas the smallest one Toyota Yaris besides the Prius but anyway I drove my Toyota Yaris in Texas bought it brand new in 2006. I ended up putting 450,000 mil😅es on it and it was still going. It’s just it was starting to burn oil. It was an automatic, I did use full synthetic oil, and took care of the engine. Anything else that needed taken care of fuel injectors whatever, radiator flush all that stuff. But I used it for work so that’s why I put so many miles on it. And then I ended up donating it to Vehicles for veterans. Stay safe out there. Ann

I'm an 82 year old Army vet, trying to get back on my feet after surviving stage 3 esophageal cancer that cost me my esophagus and most of my stomach. Back in the day I used to do a lot of camping, mostly in a Boy Scout Explorer tent, and I really enjoyed it. I've been watching your videos, and they've got me wanting to go camping again, but in a vehicle instead of a tent. Hoping to do a bit of that this summer. I really enjoy your reviews and all your comments. No BS, and no agenda is the way to go, as far as I'm concerned. I can't do much hiking, as my lungs are shot due to working with a bunch of different toxic chemicals in my early 20s. But I can still enjoy being out in the woods and on the back roads. This is just to let you know that you (and Susie) are a big part pf that. Thank you, my friend, and keep on going! Strength and Honor -

Sadly, the world has never lacked in assholes or jerks, and that's putting it politely. Anyone traveling alone, but especially camping/hiking/hunting out in the 'Sticks,' had better have their safety/security at the forefront of their mind/attention. Carrying protection (There are many kinds) is mandatory, and if you can also manage it, get yourself a good trusty Doggo! They're outstanding 'First Alert' systems, and depending on what Breed you pair-up with, also excellent deterrents to things that might be out seeking to cause trouble/harm. Enjoy our world, yes! Do so safely and protected!

@choomanfoo157 That isn't what it means at all. He said, "I don't like people who complain." That is a statement correct, but it in itself is a complaint that he dislikes those who complain, thus being an ironic and oxymoronic statement.

@brendablackington8299 correct, but I wasn't the one who made the statement. I could care less if people complain. Waste your life on matters that have no hope and / or reason to change. I merely was just asking a rhetorical and ironic question about an oxymoronic statement, not starting a debate.

I spend a lot of time on trails in areas like this in Virginia. Most of the time when I see people driving on trails we wave to each other, I always politely say hi and chat with the people in the little mom and pop shops in mountain towns. In my experience, people in Appalachia are generally great down to earth folks and give you back what you give them, so be polite and friendly and that's what you get back.

I just spent last week in Parris Island, Beaufort, SC. for my Grandsons' Marine Boot Camp Graduation. We drove back through Jacksonville, FL to go back to Dallas. The next morning I woke up with a terrible sore throat and runny nose. in over five years I have not had one sick day! This I believe is allergies and not a cold. Mowing my small yard kicked my butt yesterday and I spent the rest of the day in bed. I don't take drugs, only vitamin supplements! At 71 years old I'd say that is pretty good.

I live down west of Asheville, and surrounded by Pisgah national forest on nearly all sides. One thing I've learned is that national forest boundaries are often disputed by adjacent longtime residents. And the locals here, as I'm sure is the case up there, will protect what they might see as their property by any means necessary. Something as trivial as a disputed driveway easement can lead to violence. Who knows what these people could be up to? But hopefully they were just being dicks. Stay safe out there.

Never had to pull on anything more dangerous than a hungry racoon. But yeah it did help to keep me warm on some spooky nights. Now I have all the stuff the cool kids have, including a billon candle power flash light. So its option one: blind them back. Option two : things that keep me warm at night.

Criminal thugs are opportunists and attack in multiples of usually 2- 4 people. One guy with a pistol against 2 or 3 coming at you by surprise ain't good odds. They could have taken you out that night and got your truck and the rest of your stuff.... And they don't leave witnesses very often, especially in the woods. God gave you a warning... more than once. Head His warning and bring a tough buddy with you next time. God bless you and family Luke.

Even as an off-duty, now retired cop I've encountered this lawlessness in remote areas several times in different states. Sometimes it's a group who claim that area for their private use, albeit hunting, off roading, or partying. They can be dangerous and may try to intimidate you to abandon the area. Other times, they are casing your camp site and vehicle. If they stop, light you up and there is no movement, they will look to grab what they can steal and go. As recently as this past March I ran across both behaviors while on BLM desert land here in SW Idaho. I had a couple of meth heads with an ATV that I witnessed burglarizing a stolen/abandoned RV. They tried to intimidate me by firing shots towards my camp. They took off when I pulled out my AR-15. The next morning a buddy and I left camp to go hunting coyotes with said AR-15. We were within eyesight of camp when a pick-up truck with a father and elementary school age son pulled up to our campsite. They got out and headed into my camp. I fired one shot, in a safe direction, to let them know we were near by. They hopped back into the truck and took off back the way they came.

And this is why I do not go camping or overlanding. What happened to you would have absolutely terrified me, whether I had a gun or not - which I would not, most likely. I am a woman, and if I were out camping or overlanding, it would be with another woman. This incident would have ruined everything for us, and we most likely would’ve left after the first incident. I would’ve been so shaken that I would probably never go out and do that again. About the only place we ever camp is in a campground, but we don’t enjoy that because campgrounds are always crowded and there are a lot of kids and people making noise.

Even though I have a home to go to, I usually sleep in the car, campsites, rest stops, truck stops, etc. I usually try to find spots a bit further from the road, or that won't be along an obvious line of drift. I've had a few encounters, nothing too serious. I do keep a 2000 lumen Streamlight flashlight handy, that also happens to be attached to a .300BLK AR pistol. One thing I do, I sleep with my head towards the hatch, and my feet towards the drivers seat. I find this makes it a lot easier to get into/out of the vehicle when you have to.

Pretty impressed with your one man show. When I first started watching your content I thought you had a camera person,.. Story time... A while back a couple friends and I were camping in a remote area in the Oregon Cascades and it was later, dark out, and we were just sitting and chatting then out of nowhere we see this guy standing about 40 ft. away watching us, he had a long beard, wearing a long shabby overcoat just like in stories. We just kind of looked at each other like, "what's up with this guy" then looked back at him and he had moved to about 20 ft away still speechless and just eerie, I said "can we help you?" No verbal response, he still just stared. Mark had his 375 magnum rifle next to him and he picked it up and cocked it. The guy never said one word, he just calmly turned and walked back into the woods. It was really weird. We had heard there were old vets and such that lived in those areas but never thought anything of it. Don't know, maybe he was just hungry, maybe he was trying to spook us. Don't know. If he would have at least responded or something we would have gladly given him something to eat or drink. We'll never know. Anytime I go camping or hiking I always carry. Just a little piece of mind.
