Building my first motorcycle frame.

This is a summary of how I built a frame for my Ducati Cafe Racer! It includes parts of an old video and a lot of new stuff. It’s a brief summary of the work on the frame, but not including all the mounts needed for the electrical parts, and other stuff like tank and oil-cooler. It’s a lot of work, but the rest is even worse.... I’m now buried in electrical issues, and hopefully I’ll solve it all and make more videos in a while. Hope you enjoy this one.

@@DeSpiteMeccanica Maybe because you have welded whith the generator on the engine. As you have electricwelded (tig) with the generator left on the engine, maybe this one does not work now. If you weld with the electric wire (i do dot kwow the exact word) on the bike/frame you ca also have electrical problem after. It is two way of solutions i think.

Thanx :) The frame is made of seamless steel tubes. 32/3mm 25/2 and a little 20/2. As this is my first frame, and its all my own design, I went for quality and strength before weight.

Absolutely. It’s all seamless hydraulic pipes of steel. 32/3mm 25/2mm and 20/2mm. This is quality and strength over weight. As this is my first ever frame, and I want to get it approved for registration, that’s my choice. But it’s still some kg lighter than the original… Dimensions are pretty much a copy of a Ducati 1098. Wheelbase, steering head angle, rake, and positioning of foot pegs are as on a Ducati 1098. You’ll find this online. If not, let me know :)

No real target. The whole point of this is to make a good design, with strength and hopefully good driving capabilities. As this is my first frame ever, strength is more important than weight. But it will be lighter than the original frame. The original was 17 kg! I’m guessing this will be 10 kg or maybe a little more.

The idea of cafe racer arose from the need for motorcycles as fast as possible, so as easy as possible, by giving up certain parts and lightening others - such as side covers and cutting mudguards ... and shape is important but in 2nd place . With the legal side, how is it in Norway? In our country, you are not even allowed to touch the frame, but to make another one ... it's really SF.

You destroyed a perfectly good frame then ruined perfectly good tubing with excellent tension and good compression properties by bending it. If this is kinetic art then fill your boots but as a light stiff structure it is poor.

That’s noted. But the only way to move foreword is by trying (and failing). And as this is my frist ever project with metal, I feel that it’s a good way to learn and evolve. No matter how the result ends up, I will enjoy the process and the result.
