Love the board 👍❤️ I have a top tip for the underside of a modular board - I put normal Velcro on all of the underside, then make myself lengths of Velcro ribbon ( just cut lengths of Velcro & stick them to each other back -to back ,hook to loop, so that you end up with loose ribbons with hook on one side , loop the other) then you can hold all the loose power and signal cables safely down by pressing on one of the ribbons to the Velcro on the underside of the board ( with the ribbon in place you can even put another on top of it, maybe crosswise,whatever you need) no need for cable ties! And it all comes apart super easy for swapping in and out new favourites! It is a bit of hassle the first time , but all my boards now have Velcro undersides and I wouldn’t look back👍 ( yes I did say all my boards , this helps with the solution I currently favour, which is “ big board” - similar in size to yours, when it’s our own gig , “small board “ just 1 row + switcher , perhaps for support gigs ,flight or rehearsal,and “supplementary board” which currently is set up as a looper board wth 3 delays, volume pedal and looper- this tends to stay at home)I really think for a pro like you this would help👍🎸🇬🇧

I built my first ever pedal board very recently using Temple Audio Duo 24 and Cioks dc7+4 and pedalboard tape for attaching pedals. After buying unsuitable patch cables 2 or 3 times ended up with combination of EBS and George L's cables. Have one Source Audio Collider and Line 6 M5 for ambient wired to go into effects loop of amp and selection of boost, drive, distortion, and compressor with tuner/buffer first. After much head scratching and TPS video watching It turned out quite well. The Cioks are fantastic and am delighted with the quiet clean and variable power. You have some lovely exotic pedals and your tone as always is amazing but am sure if you played through my much more budget setup you would sound equally great. Wonderful informative video and top playing as always 👍🏻

I love it how you thought this over, are you happy? I noticed you played two guitars with Bigsby, what do you like about them? So many people hate the Bigsby. I had one on my first guitar which was a 1977 Ibanez SG and had no serious issues with tuning stability.

Have we reached ‘peak pedal’? There seem to be soooo many out there now. Is it sustainable for all those manufacturers? Great video!

Hi, this video was very instructive and made me think about my current pedalboard and if I'm doing something wrong (or that could be improved). My signal path is currently quite long: Guitar -> Empress Compressor mkII -> EHX Big Muff -> WH Conspiracy Theory -> WA Eras -> EHX MicroPog -> WA Julianna -> WA M1 -> Strymon Timeline -> WA ACS-1 -> WA R1 The signal path is stereo from the MicroPog and finishes either directly in my audio interface for my home recording (in this case I use the ACS-1) or into two amps when playing with the band (Fender Twin Reverb and Vox AC30, with the ACS-1 switched off). Everything is patched with quality cables and powered by Ciocks. So my three questions are: 1) do I need a buffer in front of this pedal chain since it is very long? Would I improve sound quality? 2) do you suggest alternative positioning of the pedals? (I know the octaver should go in front of the gain pedals but I really want to use the wet/dry double output of the Micropog.) 3) do you suggest using a switcher so that the signal path is "shorter" when using only 3-4 pedals? Thanks and great work and great sound!

Kris: Just a couple comments - THANKS SO MUCH for this very illuminating vid! - ROCKBOARD RULES. Since I discovered them a few years ago, all other boards are dead to me, Amazing price to German quality engineering and build. - Love that you used Dan Steinhardt method of a piece of paper to map out your pedal placement BEFORE you velcro. XD - 3M DUAL LOCK is the greatest. Assuming you used that or similar. - I LOVE that you used QUALITY SOLDERLESS cables in a pro level board. Can't wait to see some of the comments. The idea of different color ends to distinguish is an idea I will be stealing. XD - Assume you DID NOT use any power splitters to daisy chain any pedals at all. I have an all mini board with way too many pedals and I needed to use a few daisy chains. I assume you would not recommend this. But the power supply is 100% off AC grid - the quite great Joyo JP05 battery unit. - I would have loved to see your method of trying to cable manage the bottom. Appreciate your plan to swap stuff so the bottom of your board does not need to look like an IG sculpture. lol It's a working board, subject to constant change. - Interesting you didn't use any REVERB pedals. Or OCTAVE. Or TREMOLO. Coming in future? GREAT STUFF CHRIS! CHEERS AND ENJOY!
@KrisBarocsi2 жыл бұрын
Thanks so much Joe! Yeah the Dan's paper method is awesome, I use it all the time. No daisy chains here, I always try to avoid them. I'm always using a reverb, it's just not on the board in the studio. I have it on top of the head because I run it in stereo (it sits after the OX Box, that makes stereo possible). If I take the board to a gig I will use it in mono and the reverb will go on the board on the left side. That's why left some space for it. Cheers!

More power!!!! I think I enjoy building boards almost as much as using them. I guess I just like messing with fiddley lil things. Design goals, Studio, home, performance they all require a slighty different layout , ease of alteration, ease of use, rugged stompabiliy and compact. Soo many factors to consider for a good build. Nice looking working board Sir.

Thanks for another great Video Kris! I'm currently planning to extend my drives. Got a boss angry driver, joyo zip-amp and a self built lightspeed. What are your thoughts about those dual bluesbreaker pedals? Is it "boring" compared to the toxic twins that got a tubescreamer and bluesbreaker inside? Or would you suggest to just go with single pedals of each kind tubescreamer, bluesbreaker, dumble-like to have more possibilities of swapping in and out and switching oder? (In case it matters I'm aiming to get sounds like mayer, clapton, bonamassa so more in the bluesy corner of rock but still a beginner ;-))

Have sometimes wondered when you are just playing for yourself, not recording or gigging but at home playing guitar with an inspiring tone do you plug into an amp like the Rev ( attenuated or not ? ), go into audio interface and plugin on the computer, or some other setup. The tone on your videos is always excellent but just straight up playing/noodling/jamming how do you roll. Would be very interested to hear as am always struggling to get inspiring tone at home at low volume. Of course could just be that my playing/tone sucks lol

Good tip, thanks man! I did that with these cables just didn't leave it in the video to keep it somewhat shorter. 😅
@monsterconsvmer2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't use this board for live for only one reason, the solderless cables! I would recommend in the future to solder your own cables or to get some premade ones because solderless cables can fail on you live. Since there's no soldering, a lot of corrosion can get into the connections and also if you stretch a cable without noticing, it could mess with your connection. If you use it for studio tho, there shouldn't be a problem with these cables as long as you have a tempered room and don't move to much with it.
@KrisBarocsi2 жыл бұрын
I understand your concern but you should know that I’ve used these Evidence patch cables for almost ten years on hundreds of gigs. You don’t want to count the amount of evenings together when bear, cocktails and shots have been spilled over my board and they are still rock solid. That being said, these are one of the most expensive and highest quality patch cables available so I wouldn’t accept anything else than being flawless. Which they really are.

@@KrisBarocsi Good to know, I didn't know that solderless cables had quality grade

But the Switcher doesn’t work with an FX Loop, right? Was almost ordering one, but no FX Loop support for delay/reverb/modulation would be a no go.
