Southern Yellow Pine is the best looking of all of the spruce-pine-fir breeds. I wish we could get it (affordably) out west. I've only ever seen it for sale a few times in my life. We have plenty of strong options, such as Douglass Fir (what is usually sold as the premium construction lumber at home stores because it warps less than the other options), but it doesn't look as good.

For God's sake, just give millimeters a try... It's hard to see you struggling :) Otherwise, good work on this bench, I really enjoyed seeing you building it!
