Building our Dream English Cottage Nursery & Discovering a Hidden Fireplace | My Tiny Estate

Hard to imagine what could possibly top discovering a 14-foot fireplace hiding behind a crazy-looking plastered wall. When we later learned that we would soon be welcoming our own baby -- that delightful news surpassed everything! We decided that this very special and central room would be the perfect home for our nursery, but we have a lot of work to do on it first. Who knew picking out the perfect bed for the baby would become the most complicated detail of all?!

You will be great dads! Here comes an advice from DAD to you guys and you will later thank me for it.😊. have you heard about Dream Feed? Dream feeding is a technique used by parents to feed their babies during the night without waking them fully. This can be especially helpful for parents who want to maximize their baby's sleep time, as it can help the baby go longer between feedings and hopefully sleep for longer stretches at a time..... It worked super for my kids! Just saying..😊 Dream feeding typically involves picking up your sleeping baby and offering them a bottle or breastfeeding them while they are still asleep. The idea is to do this before the baby wakes up hungry and starts crying, which can disrupt their sleep and yours.

Sounds like the latest nonsense! Can you imagine someone trying to feed YOU while YOU are asleep? Can you imagine someone force feeding you when you are NOT hungry? You can’t control hunger. And all this because you don’t want to wake up and care for a baby in the middle of the night? Here’s a solution: don’t have a baby!

Borja really is giving Mr Darcy in his white shirt and tan trousers in the interview clip - love it! You’ve both done such a brilliant job in the nursery, it’ll be a lovely place to spend time with your little one. Also that wood stain for the rocking chair is genius! I’d never have thought of staining new furniture and I didn’t know Mylands made it either, I only ever see the ones at Homebase which aren’t nearly as nuisanced in colour. *starts searching my house for wood to stain*

You should have a cradle for the baby in your room right next to your bed...and then after a month or two or three you move the baby into the nursery using the crib (cot). You in the UK have the best antique caned victorian cradles. So funny you want things from the US and I want things from the UK. I'm so excited for you both.

What about a mural in the nursery from a photograph of the Dower House exterior grounds, put through a monochromatic filter to mimic French grisaille painting , maybe personalized with a variety of animals, the two of you, a donkey, the lady in pink and the other mum. It would be sophisticated enough to transition into adulthood. There are programs that will create wall paper from digital images. Something to do in your spare time, as you don't have anything else on your plates.

the room is really coming along well, love the finishing touches, amazing how you ca adapt off the shelf units and make them look bespoke... I think it will be a while before you venture this way with all the projects you have on the go but as you said in the last video the foot will soon be off the accelerator so you can actually enjoy family life and adjust to being 3, but also enjoy some off the wonderful spaces you have created as well as some work but at a sensible pace. Man flu - yep - I totally get that. My husband gets little sympathy also. In the meantime, it’s so funny listening to first time parents preparing for their baby. Been there, done that. The first thing is - most of the stuff you think you need, you don’t. So many of the things you plan to do, you won’t. Babies are wonderful, but I will never forget the bone deep tiredness. As for keeping them in their room? I just put them in bed with us when they woke up during the night because I was tired, No, they didn’t do it until they were 15, if you encourage them to be independent, they will be. Only piece of advice? Look around at the people you know, pick who seems to have the best relationship with their kids, and do what they do. Never believe parents who tell you their kids “never did that”. People lie. Ignore them. You guys will be great. Good luck! ❤ And in the immortal words of Douglas Adams - Don’t panic.

It’s lime plaster so doesn’t damages the wall, we did the back as it felt a bit to brick heavy and added extra depth

Bub will need to sleep in your room for months guys. Even in your bed. You can’t expect a newborn baby who is born knowing the actual smell of it’s mother and even will already know what the smell and taste of her breastmilk will be and the security she offers to just be put in a room and left to sleep alone. It doesn’t work like “it will know it has to stay there all night” it’s not like training a dog guys

For anyone reading this message medical professionals actually advise against letting them sleep in your bed for safety reasons. You could easily turn over and crush them. Totally respect your opinion on what you think should be done but we are taking the advice from doctors and then all other things we will test out what works best for the baby. At the end of the day they don’t come with a rule book and they are all different and we need to adapt to them x

@@mytinyestate Medical professionals advise against babies sleeping in your bed. I do understand this, they don't want to be responsible for accidents. But as a mum of 4 I can say that you will never roll onto your baby. Your instinct knows that the baby is there. In your sleep (as if you really sleep deep with a baby besides you....) you will move sometimes but never on the baby. You really will not crush the baby!
