Cranking out the interior in this first installment of building Pegasus Hobbies' 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea Nautilus.
NOTE: If you are using the photo etch, you'll need to trim down the ceiling beams above the bookcase in order for the ceiling to fit.

Beautiful build, wine colored velvet does give a nice Victorian/Steampunk vibe, good choice. Saw this kit last week in my local shop, looks beautiful and very tempting... soon. Other projects first.

As I'm rewatching this video, I heard you mention needing different color LED's. Last month I needed green LED's and just colored a white LED with a green Sharpie. You'd be surprised how well it worked! Also....you could have cut out the lighting panels with a scribing tool...but depending on how thick that plastic is, it might have taken a while as well. Still waiting on my kit to arrive!

This is the first time I'm seeing this kit built. Fantastic work on the interior. The rug was a nice detail

Great job with that photo etch!! I love learning something new and cant wait to try clear lacquer for etch application on my next build. Looking very nice and glad to see you will be lighting this one. All the hard work will be seen!

Looking good. You might have to diffuse the LED lights with some very super thin styrene panels on top. Give it that glow look inside. Glad you got the photo etched sheet, it really adds to the overall look. The rug was a great idea. Classy looking. Good luck and have fun.

Tape might of worked. Not sure if it would last the test of time, though.

Really great work. Makes me want to move this kit up in the build pile. Do you plan to use individual leds or a strip?

Awesome job, just one thing, Rogs usually have the strings only two opposing sides not all sides ;) but anyways can't complain since it's a nicely done job! well done

I know this is an old video, but for future projects, if you heat your knife, it's much easier to cut the plastic....like a hot knife through butter! Just don't get too close to the edge line of your cut as melting plastic leaves ridges that you need to trim, but a Dremel makes that an easy task as well....hope that helps! :-) P.S. - you might want to practice on some scrap plastics first to see the effects and how much you have to trim after the cut.

nice work indeed. Few bits > cover books in 19th century leather coloring was expensive yet old tech. Few colors available mostly dark/rich shades of red, blue, green and shades of leather. A bit of detail which could brighten it are gold "text" and lines. With white velvet paper and bit of knife work u could also make dead animal skin rug (like sheep) or u can go for tiger too :D u have skills for that for sure. shiny globe will it not shine too much if u use leds without some sort of difuse?

You should have looked up miniature needlepoint rugs for dollhouses. I bet you could have found exactly what you are looking for!

I did. They are way too big. Dollhouses don't come in 1/144th scale I guess.
@MrAlumni72
@MrAlumni72 5 жыл бұрын
Apparently you're wrong - normal dollhouses tend to come in either 1:24 or 1:48 scale, roughly translated from dollhouse sizes to modeling sizes - but the scale for what might be called "dollhouse toys" - or a dollhouse-within-a-dollhouse size - is apparently 1:144. Who knew? (My wife, who just recently got into dollhousing - if that's an actual term). Still, though, the trick is to find a rug for a dollhouse that someone would put inside another dollhouse. Inception? Now, like everyone else in these comments, I am obsessed with doing up this kit in style - I found and watched part 4 first, and started thinking about scratch-building some bookcases and other furniture for the interior, but after seeing the actual parts involved I think I'll try to keep my imagination in check and first off just try to build the kit without screwing it up. :-)

Why not use a strip of cellophane tape to line up the yarn then a line of glue underneath to secure it even better? It's a cool rug though.

"How to do that efficiently..." You need a scroll saw and very fine blades. You could cut all the panels out in about 20 minutes. Then another ten minutes filing and you're done.

A serious model? You do know 'the silly squid' is from the original? It's based on the Verne novel/movies. They are pretty cheesy in the oringinals.
