I recently made a very similar creation in Trailmakers. If you combine one of each suspension piece on each "spoke" it reacts much much more smoothly. Also, helicopter engines work better as they let each "wheel" spin independently of each other but you need to add another helicopter engine on each wheel spinning in the opposite direction to keep the creation from flipping over due to torque.
@-aid4084 Жыл бұрын
you don't need to max out the speed, if it's enough to get the wheels spinning to the max speed that's all thats needed.
@-aid4084 Жыл бұрын
for the helicopter engines I mean, it doesn't produce torque until you max the speed meter really.

I think you went from one extreme to another with the suspension in Trailmakers. First it was too stiff so you lowered the stiffness. However, in putting it down to 0 it compresses all the way therefore making the two blocks on the end of each spring touch each other and act as a static object. If you found somewhere in the middle, I think it might be smoother.

You had build something similar in a YDIB episode. There it was piston wheels instead of suspension. Similar driving experience as well.
@19future91 Жыл бұрын
In Trailmakers for more grip/ground contact u need to add a system that let the front/back of the vehicle to tilt left and right independently, like a very low powered rotating servo to connect the back/front of the vehicle
@0megaming Жыл бұрын
I really love the scrap mechanic one. I´ll try to rebuild an RC basher-truck with that concept ^^
@Loop_Kat Жыл бұрын
As you saw with the Trailmakers build, mechanical blocks have a quirk where they become progressively more unstable as more of them are chained together or sometimes even just based on the order in which they're connected. For example, if you have a piston leading to a steering hinge leading to a wheel, it will behave differently than if the order was a steering hinge leading to a piston leading to a wheel. Or, if you stack a bunch of suspensions on top of each other, they basically turn into spaghetti, despite the fact that they're only supposed to compress vertically When it's just a _couple_ mechanical blocks, it's usually not an issue, but it really becomes apparent the more mechanical blocks you have in the chain. That's why everything was spazzing out when the build was a servo to a hinge to suspension to another suspension, plus the steering hinge in the middle of the vehicle body

Dampening is a system that affects how much a joint shifts or wobbles after it's received an input or interaction. So more dampening means it should move less, less dampening means its more free to bounce and shift. In this case the more damper helped because it kept the wheels in contact with the rock more so it could climb easier. More or less damper being useful depends on what you're doing I guess, a higher biased damper would help with climbing but lower bias would probably be better for descending and going over rocks and rough terrain at speed. Usually for off-road in games I go with soft suspension, and upper middle damper. Been in a rock crawler jeep and it does feel like many go for higher damper but let the wheels have plenty of swing. The arms flex a lot but you hit like a sack of flour.

10:39 try using sensor blocks, They only have 3 sides to connect so it wont weld together if you face it into other blocks
@rccookie6202 Жыл бұрын
You may need the weights directly on the wheels for them to affect the suspension, Trailmakers seems to have issues to transfer weight forces through joints. Remember the problems when you tried making a trebuchet
