After watching several of his videos, I don't believe his concept of nice would be the expected one Nice normal people: tidy stuff, clean, matching colors etc Nice DDW: Big sparks, flamy conductors, underwater electricity arcs, room vibrating, etc.

Remote control gap would be okay, but I wouldn't want it to be controlled with boards. It just makes me nervous after seeing how powerful his transformer bank is...

Could you please also build a DRSSTC? Something like Steve Wards Universal Driver 1.3b (its easier to build if you don't want to design a PCB, the newer versions require SMD components). It would be very interesting seeing someone who is tuning up his DRSSTC until its working. You could even use your current secondary coil for it.

Heyho, i'm also a tesla coil builder and want to tell u ,that u have to blow air through the spark gap, due to the ionization of the molecules in the air and if these ionized particles stay betwenn ur spark gap electrodes the spark gap will fire more oftem than u want due to the lower resistenz of the air betwen, and as u shoukd know a spark gap has to be tuned precisly to work probalby. Therefore u also need as u said multiple gaps within the spark gap and not just one, so the fan can push "used" air faster out of it. I would also recommend building a more stable spark gap. It is nice to use scratch but u still can do better i belief.

It is about time that someone explained the exact working detail of this Diode Gone Wild, "High-frequency series LC"circuit shown at 0:11 and the other circuit where the spark gap and the capacitor are exchanged to feed the " HIgh frequency parallel LC circuit " suggested by ElectroBOOM. Taking the circuit shown at 0:11, the high voltage transformer on the left operating, in this case operating at 50/60 Hertz, is a step-up transformer and the fact that it is short circuit protected with air gaps in its magnetic path makes the secondary of the transformer A CURRENT SOURCE with a high output impedance, where when the spark gap breaks down, the duration of the spark is a good duration of the upper part of the 50/60 hertz sine wave, in other words, the spark fed from this current source is long, relatively speaking. It is imperative to consider that the long-duration spark is a SHORT CIRCUIT, fed from a current source of high impedance represented by the 50/60 hertz transformer secondary. When we consider the series LC circuit which is of a much higher frequency than the 50/60 cycles transformer on the left which creates the spark, then THE HIGH-FREQUENCY LC SERIES CIRCUIT SHOWN AT 0.11 MUST BE DRIVEN/MATCHED WITH A VOLTAGE SOURCE OF LOW IMPEDANCE TO MATCH THE RESONANT IMPEDANCE OF THE HF SERIES CIRCUIT. In fact, the HF series LC circuit is not driven but the capacitor C is first charged, and then while the spark forms a long duration short circuit, the LC series circuit RINGS repetitively a number of times through the long-short circuit created by the spark gap. * In this function /operation, the most important issue to consider is that the long duration spark at 50/60 hertz provides the long-short circuit to match the resonant impedance of the HF series LC circuit where a large number of ringing decaying ripples occur during the presence of the long duration spark. In the case of the circuit provided by ElectroBoom, which exchanges the spark gap with the capacitor, hence a parallel LC tuned circuit is to be resonated, then this needs to be fed from a high impedance current source to match the high resonant impedance of the LC parallel circuit. In this case, the high impedance of the 50/60 hertz transformer provides the high output impedance while the long duration spark provides the short circuit to connect the LC in a parallel high impedance mode which would ring through the spark long extended duration, for a number of ripples. As far as voltage levels seen by the secondary of the high voltage 50/60 Hertz transformer, the ElectroBoom parallel LC circuit would reach a far higher voltage at the parallel LC circuit than the circuit suggested by DiodeGoneWild with a series LC circuit. . The wires are to be able to connect lower number of gaps, and also to prevent the pipes from rattling :). They were a bit loose on the nails.

Great Videos. So I have a theory with the Fan on the Spark Gap. The air movement changes the spark gap frequency. If the spark is small enough because of the ionization the Air acts similar to as it does with fire. However instead add fuel, it changes the intensity which thus changes the Frequency of the spark. if you add a High Power Sever Fan to the Spark Gap and variate you can see some interesting effects as you will change the Resonance of the Coil. Try it out.

I see some people have the spark gap in parallel with the power source and some have it in series. How does that affect the function?

The spark gap should always be in parallel with the high voltage source. This prevents the high frequency voltage from backfeeding and damaging it. Or at least, it shorts the differential mode high frequency voltage. There's still the common mode high frequency voltage that can damage it, but this risk is sometimes mitigated using a second, protective spark gap, with a wider gap and a third, grounded electrode in the middle. But in every case, the version with the capacitor parallel to the high voltage source is wrong. Honestly, a high voltage source of a SGTC can always fail, but with the wrong version, it's more likely.

Why not connect spark gap like we connect the work coil in induction heaters, input and output on diagonally opposite terminals.

Can you make video on Colorado Springs model of Tesla Coil that Nikola Tesla patented? Patent 1119732. It has three coils: primary, secondary and extra coil. Colorado Springs model of Tesla Coil is called Magnifying Transmitter.
