Couldn’t have done a better job myself , fantastic work from one RF lover to another mate 😀👍

It also has small valves for the 1100 engine. I think it will give more power with larger valves.
@Adikxx3 жыл бұрын
Yes you're 100% correct. Bigger valves = more power. I'm building this on extremely small budget hence use of stock RF900 valves. We shall see how things go :)

Personally after all that effort, i'd replace the valves and valve guides for APE components, as these are the Achilles heel of the rf motor, not forgetting 2nd gear!

I might be buying a rf900r 1996 (60,000 km) but the only thing that is holding me is the 2nd gear problems. Is it really as common a problem as people talk about. Have you had this problem on your bikes?
@samulianttila41553 жыл бұрын
And 60 000 km is also quite a lot so I don't know how many kilometers can be expected from it anymore.
@Adikxx3 жыл бұрын
@@samulianttila4155 Here is my answer to you question. 60k km is NOT a lot for those engines. Actually my current RF has about 60k km and it runs very well, my previous RF had more than that and run great(until it's been crashed), my cousin's RF has over 70k km and runs like a Swiss watch. I suggest you join the Facebook RF600/900 group and you'll see people having well over 100k km on their bikes. Rotating assembly in those engines is very durable, lubrication system is efficient and when those engines have problems it's solely due to poor maintenance, complete lack of maintenance or absolute thrashing/abuse. Now "2nd gear issue". Well that isn't just RF900 malady, it actually can happen to all water cooled Suzuki engines from 90s because they use same gearboxes: (RF600, GSXR600, GSXR750W-same gear box, RF900 and GSXR 1100W-same gear box). Truth is that if bike was just RIDDEN (not raced or thrashed) but just ridden then the chance of 2nd gear slip is slim. If it happens to you it's not that big of a deal to fix( It's a lot harder to fix top end then gear box) People make a big deal out of it cause the engine needs to come out but i assure you that to do that it takes max 4 hours and in few weeks i will post a video with step by step instructions showing how to remove the engine. Once you have it out you split the crankcases and remove the gearbox(i have a video on this channel showing that too). Then you take gears to machine shop to have them slightly undercut and put everything together. Alternatively you buy new gears but that's expensive. Finally even if it happened you could still ride with it, it just means you'd need to shift early from 2nd to 3rd. Some members of RF600/900 group rode their bikes like this for years. It is a bit of a legend that 2nd gear issue tbh, i never had an issue with it on my RFs, my cousin neither. I guess it's like asking a 100 random people if they ever broke a bone, 10 might say yes 90 might say no, it's kinda like that with this 2nd gear subject. My final suggestion is to go for a bike from a passionate loving owner who maintained the bike to highest standard. Go by condition and service history not necessarily mileage, avoid rusty, tatty bikes that stood in a barn for years cause that will be eternal pain. Oh and btw on 1996+ bikes charging system can fail as they have alternators with rubber bush drive instead of proper good solid shaft drive found in earlier models. That's a common issue for those but good news is that you can retro fit older alternator and drive to newer bike, easily done and fairly cheap. Hope this helps

RF900 has terrible channel processing quality. There are many inconsistencies. I remember taking a long time to fix this.

would 1100 engine not fit straight in?
@Adikxx3 жыл бұрын
Nope. Head way too big. Would need to chop and modify the frame. Also GSXR has horizontal draft carbs and RF has down draft hence RF head needs to be used
@_sneer_3 жыл бұрын
@@Adikxx ah, true, forgot about that. Are you going to use cams of the 1100? Another idea is to have rf9 ones reprofiled by Kent cams for example. I think that costed me around 250 a few years back for a CBR1000F. That will give you nice gains in power for relatively modest price. You would be talking 5-10HP easily. What is your plan actually with the mod? Just the 1100 barrels and pistons? Great videos, by the way.
@Adikxx3 жыл бұрын
@@_sneer_ I have 3 sets of cams on the shelf and still deliberate what to use. I have RF900, GSXR 750 and GSXR 1100 cams. I used 750 cams in my other RF900 engine and results were amazing, top end power got very rapid. Here is my problem with GSXR cams. First they work great from about 5k rpm but take away a tiny bit of low end torque and i'm all about torque tbh and don't really need top end rush that much on the road. Second issue is that GSXR cams have nearly 1mm more lift and with RF900 head on GSXR bottom end i will already have serious PTV clearance issues so RF900 cams will be a lot safer in that respect. We shall see how it goes.
