A little tip for watering your houseplants: pick a day of the week.... that's it! For example, Sunday is my watering day, so every Sunday I water all my plants. Most plants will be happy on this schedule with some needing just a little water and others more a saturated fill but yeah.. works great :)

Hope you don't mind but just a tip from my 20+ years of experience: Don't place such massive wood in front of a black background. That was also one of the main reasons the old tank looked so dark. It was not the wood itself or how you positioned it, it was the black background. I would recommend a white or blue one. 😉
