I tried using one of those little amazon balancers. They're garbage. Smoked mine upon hooking up and it was all correct. Used the LIFEPO4 red Headways (4s4p). Top balanced for a day and they have been installed for a few years now and the sets of 4p still have the exact same voltage, so I've just been running without a balancer. Only have 2.5k total and never run at max volume, so it's never under any stress. My issue with the LI-Ion (aside from being less stable tech than LIFEPO4) is the voltage. You'd need to charge at 16.x and can't mix with LA/AGM, where as the LIFEPO4s are within .2, so no electrical changes needed, just add and go. For a test bench though it would be fine.

you should look for some a123 battery cells , they have a 31ah pouch cell that does 250amp burst for 1min and the chemistry is lifepo4 so lot less chance of explosion and fire and more importantly these cells are perfect replacement for 12v leadacid and their voltage range is exactly the same. 4 of them in series & 6 or 8 in parallel is all you need to test even the strongest automotive amp out there. i have a pack made from 32700 cells i bought for 50$ and it is supposed to be 12ah 25.6v but it outruns 27ah 24v leadacid in runtime , the pack is powering my ups and runs my desktop computer for almost 2 hours ! and the cells were half the price of buying 6 9ah batteries that my ups use.

You've likely seen my little lithium pack 'incident' already. My house currently has about a 7.5KWH backup battery setup, made from 36V 'scooter/E-bike" recycled packs. Was pretty useful when I lost power for 9 days in those Norcal storms. (And all communications for 6 days, and no road for 8.. Fun times!) Good for a couple days of lights, comms and computer/TV power, as well as my CPAP machine and electric blanket. Have some mods planned to run the freezer/refer from it as well, just need to tie in the big inverter. (Everything else is on a commercial grade surplus UPS. Don't even see flickers in the lights when power drops, just my mini-split shutting down..:) Those SiP08 cells and the busbars would likely easily 'dyno' a 10,000W class 'D' amp at 1000A drain for the test duration. The cells each can take a 200A short term load, and you have 6 in parallel. The busbars would hold that current for a min or so fine, they just can't take over 300A long term.. Would double-check that with your build by checking terminal voltage under a short, big load. Bet they'd hold up great at at least 600A for a couple mins or so... Then quite a bit of charging..:) Just ordered a 36V 6.4KWH EV battery to add to the pile. Be careful and enjoy the power! Stu

Headway can be ran with agm, but this cannot. These cells are more powerful, but if you’re not running 15v or higher headway is the better choice
@JasonWW2000
@JasonWW2000 Жыл бұрын
If you want to use these higher voltage 16.8v cells you're going to need to change your voltage regulator to output a much higher voltage (at least 16 volts) and also make sure that your vehicle can handle the higher voltage. This can cost a considerable amount of money. So using the lower voltage Headway cells (14.6v max) is definitely going to be better bang for your buck since it can run with the stock alternator voltages and can be paired to an AGM battery. The reason headways can be run with an AGM is because their resting voltage will be very close to each other when charged from an alternator. A lead-acid battery has too low of a resting voltage to work with the higher voltage Headways and it causes the Headway batteries to discharge into the lead acid battery over time. For the best performance you want to get rid of your normal batteries and run just the headways. Your alternator will be capable of recharging the headways by themself much quicker compared to using them in combination with a lead battery.

@@Simpleman1078 I plan to get rid of my stock lead acid battery under the hood when I install my Headway battery bank. I do have the option of buying an AGM for under the hood, but thats $250 and I don't need it. You can't really mix a normal lead acid battery with the Headway cells. It has to be an AGM battery. Does that answer you? I wasn't really sure what you're asking.

I’m currently using this bank in my camping cargo trailer. They aren’t being stressed AT ALL even when running my 2k watt pure sine wave power inverter. These cells are awesome! They are rated at 200 amps continuous and 400 amps max… per cell! They are a GREAT alternative to headway cells. Just make sure you buy the correct BMS, otherwise you will have a max battery voltage of only 14.7 volts. Ask me how I know!! Hahaha Great video HiFi!!

I can’t remember if it is for Lifepo or for lithium. One has a max charging voltage of 14.7 volts and the other has a max charging voltage of 16.8 volts. Either way, if you have a programmable solar charge controller, you can set the maximum charge voltage to be at 14.7 volts. To prevent the max voltage shut off in the BMS from triggering all the time, I programmed my charge controller to stop charging at 14.6 volts. I use EPEver Tracer charge controllers.
