Man I want a lathe

As made the lathe has no clutch. There is a 3 step pulley on the spindle and a lever to reduce the tension for belt changing. I have made a bracket that deforms the belt when the lever is moved and so acts a clutch.

Performance should be equal to or greater than the original as stainless steel has been used for the cylinder and displacer . This material does not transfer heat well which is desirable in this application.

Sorry I didn't get the assembly videoed. It's pretty straight forward piston at one end displacer at the other. I'll put up details at myfordboy.blogspot.com in a few days time.

It's an enamel paint from Pheonix Precision paints ( UK ) I usualy spray it but the weather here was poor at the time so it was brushed on.

A displacer does not touch the sides of the cylinder so the the finish is not important. Its about 0.062" smaller than the bore.

I don't keep a record of the hours spent. It took longer to film and edit the videos than the time spent in the workshop.

Cordialement.

Can you put an alternator on the engine and load it up, and measure the efficiency? I am sure BTU's can be measured by a simple flow meter to the engine, but what about the power coming from the flywheel? i have loved these engines from the moment I understood them, and to this day wonder when power stations will replace cooling towers with them, to recover ALL the heat from their fuel, or use molten salt from solar collectors, sprayed into a condensor, as the heat source for really big engines.

Amazing range of operations. Mill worked as a drill press, drill press worked like a mill and tapping system, lathe worked as a mill and horizontal drill press. Creative use of moving tools to stationary pieces and visa versa. Would like to have seen final assembly. Also curious as to why not press or heat fit certain parts - used locktite instead. Water jacket simply filled up? Thanks

I watched this whole series non[stop from #1 to #15 tonight and enjoyed it very much Thanks!! The only suggestion I have would be to show the assembley and fit of the displacer piston in it's bore. Does it not have to be as precise as the power piston? Does it actually make contact with the cylinder wall? The finish on it did not look good enough to accomplish this. Thans again for a great series!

Amazing series, I enjoyed every minutes. Thanks a lot. I would have loved to see you assembling it all together in one video. Showing all the finished parts closely as you put it together then start it up and make adjustments for top performance. And as a bonus, show the strength of this beauty and see what it can power... Like a fan, a dynamo, etc... Thanks one more time, you're fabulous.
