Building the Frederick Dunn Long Langstroth Hive

This video shows my latest long lang hive produced from the free plans offered by Frederick Dunn from 'The Way To Be Podcast'. I have made a few small modifications, but 95% of the hive is built following these plans.

Thank you for sharing what modifications you made. Removable chain, nice! I like the sealed edges on your double bubble blanket. The space under those frames will allow them to draw out drone comb as the colony builds up. I'll be interested to see how it works out for you. Personally, I'd put double bubble on the interior of your cover. Even here in PA, the metal gets well over 135 deg. F. Thanks for sharing and I wish you all the best!

Looks great! I like the chain as well. The inner cover is nice for feeding. The only thing I see I would add is: Thicker legs, I would add another 2x4 sistered to it to keep it from sinking into the ground and keeping it from warping over time. Thank you for sharing I am planning to build one next winter

I agree, thicker legs might be needed if you place your hives on the ground to keep them from sinking in as you noted. However, I place my hives on 1-inch thick pavers so this is not an issue for me. If however you are going to set them on bare ground, you might also think about using pressure treated lumber for the legs. Thanks for the comment.

Thanks I have extra inner covers, discs and plexiglass, just have to get them finished.
