Kudos for achieving such a fine result in 1/72. I have this in Tamiya's 1/48 version and couldn't imagine me even attempting to build it in 1/72. Yes, older eyes and fingers.

Thank you for the excellent tutorial. The black basing technique is very effective and the blending of colors created great tonal variation.....and who would have thought flat flesh! Best wishes from Australia!

Strange. Although there's the 37mm gun barrel on the roof, I didn't notice from the video whether you built the gun parts within the rear cockpit. Instead there seemed to be a camera on the floor. Correct me if I'm wrong. but it seems that instead of building the correct Ki-46-III-KAI nightfighter (the only armed Dinah version) rear cockpit you used the parts for the Ki-46-II reconnaissance version.

Great video as always! i like the fact that you show japanese aircraft other than the classic Zero. I build mainly japanese aircraft, but you don't see them too much around.. i'm starting a triple build of the three "cousins", theKi-61, MC 202 and Bf 109 E, but i will mix them up: the 202 in japanese markings, the 61 in german and the 109 in italian ones. Your videos will be a great help!

I really enjoyed building Tamiya's KI61 Hein. It has this amazing and difficult camo that took me 4 summer nights to complete all the green squiggles. It is part of my growing collection of Japanese aeroplanes and I want to build this one next.

I've taken to using the white sqiggle/fill method on my models and it gives such an excellent depth. My 1/72 Airfix P-40B in desert scheme came out a real gem because of it. I might've been model building 20 years, but learning a new method to enhance the finish is always a win win outcome.

Excuse my ignorance, but I've noticed on a lot of your videos you use MLT or IPA when thinning different colours. Is this because the produce a different sheen or some other reason?
@Scaleaton
@Scaleaton 3 жыл бұрын
With IPA, you can apply more translucent layers. MLT is more suitable for sharp-edged lines. Also IPA for all acrylics, MIT for glossy acrylics and all lacquers.

I'm sure this will sound weird, but I find these videos very soothing. Especially with the music at the end. My mom died a week ago today, so I'm kind of messed up. I've been focusing on my models as a bit of a distraction, as well as watching build videos like this. I'm amazed at the detail you're able to give 72nd scale planes. I'm hoping I can apply these techniques on my 32nd scale Dauntless, successfully. Keep up the great work.

Just perfect!

@Scaleaton
@Scaleaton 6 жыл бұрын

@Scaleaton
@Scaleaton 6 жыл бұрын
Kolay gelsin.

You are a great artist and a great teacher!!! Thank you so much for your uploads. BTW as I spend hours waching your videos and trying to improve myself a lot of questions appear : 1. You almost never use surfacer. Do you think Tamiya or Gunze colors bond on plastic as strong as surfacer ? 2.Do you wash the plastic before painting ? and if yes with what ? 3.Your 1st layer of paint usually is thinned with ISO do you think if diluted with ISO it bonds better than if diluted with Mr.Leveling thinner? Whats the difenance in properties of paint if thinned with ISO or Mr.Leveling Thinner ? 4. After using Aclad metallics do you seal them before painting acrilics on top ? or before spaying hairspray for chipping ( Corsair video) 5. Do you use decal softeners? 6. What varnish do you use before panel lining? 7.How do you stick painted parts on painted surfaces with Tamiya glue ??? Do you scratch the are to be glued ? OK ...ok I have 100s of questions and i am getting stupid . 1000 thanks for the uploads again. Looking Forward for your next project
@Scaleaton
@Scaleaton 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Giannis, Thank you very much! 1. No they are not strong as a primer. I recommend using Mr Surfacer primers before painting but it's not necessary if you can handle to complete model without damage to painted surface. 2. I don't wash new or modern kits. I only wash short run or resin kits with PBW but any oil remover would be great which you use in kitchen. 3. I use IPA beacuse it's cheap. That's the only advantage over hobby thinners. 4. nope 5. Yes, Tamiya Stron and Microsol is my favorite. 6. I always use X-22 7. It's MEK in the Tamiya bottle ;)

Awesome work as usual. One quick question. Is there a rule for choosing leveling thinners vs alcohol as the thinning medium?
@Scaleaton
@Scaleaton 6 жыл бұрын
I prefer alcohol for thinning Tamiya and Gunze acrylics. It's cheap and I don't like the smell lacquer thinners. I always use highly protective masks but room smells a few hours long :) I use lacquer for thinning enamel and lacquer based paints
