Faster and bigger. In this episode, we soar from the experimental Bell X-1 that first proved the possibility of supersonic flight, to the modern jets like the F22 Raptor. We also examine some of the largest crafts to ever fly, including Howard Hughes' Spruce Goose that was the inspiration behind Hughes biopic The Aviator, starring Leonardo DiCaprio.

Given the title, I was expecting something ALL ABOUT the Spruce Goose.... sadly, this was not.. and for that, a thumbs down from me.

@@jacoblambert8082 It is indeed. I toured it many years ago when it was still in California. Where it is now is a better place for it.

My great grandfather and two of his sons were engineers on the project with Hughes. Four generations of aerospace and mechanical engineers later, I find this. While I also thought it would be a documentary on the Birch Flop (as grandpa called it), it's not really a disappointing video in itself. The title is for sure click bait and should be changed and perhaps I can sue but I won't. There are several facts that aren't entirely accurate but are close enough for grade to high schoolers interested in material properties or general engineering to have a draw effect.

Members of my family worked on many of these birds and I even worked on a few components on one that was mentioned. But please, change the title of the video.

The small section on the Spruce Goose starts at 25:30 and ends 27:30. I really expected a documentary on the Spruce Goose based on the title but it only has a 2 minute segment. I enjoyed this program nonetheless but the title is misleading for sure.

I got to witness Chuck Yeager's last official AF flight that day at Edwards AFB. We were still working our way through the parking lot when Gen. Yeager zapped us with that beautiful boom. That same day we also got to see a B1b do a barrel roll, and the N9M Flying Wing on it's 1st public flight after restoration (RIP). A truly amazing day I hope to never forget.

Love the show but the Blackbird did get hit by a Russian missile it started help with United States and Russia look it up second question when the jet engine fires up why does you see little Rings coming out with the porch in the middle what makes it do that
@mustangflyer6878
@mustangflyer6878 3 жыл бұрын
The SR-71 was never struck or shot down by any missles, what you are referring to is the U-2 "Dragon Lady" that was shot down over Cuba by a Russian missle on 27 October 1962. The U-2 was an unarmed subsonic reconnisance aircraft with a ceiling of only 54,000 ft., well within the range of any ground-to-air and air-to-air missles. In essence, it was just a $950,000 (in 1955) spy camera. The exhaust rings are called shock diamonds, better known as Mach disks, and they occur when gas is exiting a nozzle at supersonic speeds at a different pressure than the outside atmosphere. Under these conditions, the Mach disks are visible in all jet aircraft exhaust plumes, including the Space Shuttles main engines.

Every Time I look at this beautiful Aircraft it reminds me of the first Aircraft of this shape, the Avro Arrow built and flown in 1957 by the Canadian Airforce. A case of too much too soon, by an ignorant Government unable to see the promise and future of the best seek and destroy fighter of its time and the death of a very promising NewAircraft Industry. We in Canada have suffered the consequences ever since and had to depend on our neighbors to the south ever since. God bless the USA.

Sorry, but I reported you for clickbait. Several of my family members worked on the Spruce Goose, so, don't use clickbait titles. This is a cool documentary and everything, but I'm sure you've just reposted for views and subs. Hate to call out people, but you kind of just left that turd on the floor.

Well this sucks, according to the title your 49 minute video is about the H-4 Hercules, instead there's only 5 minutes devoted to the H-4 and that earns you a thumbs down and no subscription for all of your clickbait videos.

The Concorde was driven by governments and not the market. That's why it was never a real success. If you argue it was a success, then show me all the flying Concords and routes it flies. There are many other commercial aircraft designed and built in the same era that are still flying. And no, the US didn't try to kill it with a sonic boom ban. The majority of the US population and land mass live miles away from the oceans, unlike the UK. You simply cannot have sonic booms over populated areas. Easy to do over the water near the UK. Not so in the US. Again, the real marketplace knew what was needed and how to meet the needs. The key wasn't speed in commercial travel. It was price. Governments usually don't get it right.
