It's interesting how hard companies brand the "never frozen" element. Freezing food isn't bad, it's just a lot of frozen food is at the budget end of the market. Lots of things (like many vegetables) are better frozen than "fresh", because the product is frozen at the point of harvest rather than being transported and stored for days or sometimes even weeks in refrigerated storage where it is deteriorating. But people still mentally associate "frozen" with "bad" or "cheap".

Shadows on the road also cause more Salt to be used in the winter to de-ice. You could put a spreader on level 2 when the sun is out vs level 6 when its a cloudy day at the same temperature. The sun really helps break the ice off the road.

Hey! I work in a wilderness in Idaho during the summers, and there are several lookouts within the wilderness. They are generally at the very top of a mountain so that they have a 360 view. Also, fun fact, usually at least two lookouts will always be needed. This is so that when they both report the exact angle the fire is from the lookout, they can triangulate and find quite precise coordinates of the smoke!

Quick tip for making EVEN BETTER forests (what you did already looks great btw). Add the thick foliage that you normally use for hiding lumpies and bumpies to some of the areas that you planted trees in. When you zoom in, it makes the forest looks SO much thicker and more lush having that little bit of undergrowth.

In regard to fire watch towers, the point of the tower to house a person with a Osborne Fire Finder ( Like a plain table used in surveying ) so going outside and walking over is not actually an option and generally you need 2 towers to get an accurate fix then the location is radioed in so water bombers or hot spot crews can go and put out the fire or fire cuts can be made to prevent spread using heavy equipment or explosive's . That said its the height of the top of the tower not the base that matters. Today drones are often also used along with IR satellite images that can spot the fire even when no smoke is visible over extremely large areas (Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS)) .

I love vanilla series more than any other - no weird LUTS, or excessively conflicting aesthetics between content creators, and it's really easy to feel like you could take what you see and do it your way without too much of a learning curve/aggravation. And Verde Beach is my favorite of all vanilla builds on all of KZbin - and I've been to virtually every one (or close to!). I'd love to see a sister city either in CS2 (or in CS1 as a throwback playthrough later on). Maybe even MORE Utopian, or the opposite: super realistic. For the weird road you reconfigured, consider adding a wildlife corridor bridge like the other one nearby. As it is, that island you've created with the road network would be very dangerous for any big animals to get to and from across a 4 laner from the big forest.

Honestly, that bike road through the mountainside should basically not exist. It's redundant to the highway connection running along the shore, which would see lane upgrades way before you carved fifty metres through a mountainside to connect basically the same two points :)
@simongeard4824 Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I was thinking the same... that road just makes no sense. Hugely expensive to build, no zoning along it, and not much traffic because everyone will just keep going along the highway to the other intersection. The only advantage is that it provides redundancy, but it would be hard to justify the cost on that basis alone.

Wish this place was real so I could visit it...I'm gonna miss it!! Thanks for all of the hard work on this amazing build. If there's one thing I'd add...I've seen a few separate comments about a cable car system for the mountain and that combined with the switchbacks gave me flashbacks of my trip to Machu Picchu. The whole time I was in those terrifying buses that take those sharp turns to get up to the site I was thinking "god I wish they had a cable car here instead". If it's possible I think that would be a super cool asset to the park. If not...maybe just some benches for the long hike up!

You should take a look for inspiration at Lions Head and Signal Hill in Cape Town, specifically the trails that go up as the topography is quite similar to this park! Also how cars tend to line the streets in sort of informal parking near the trails. Lions Head has a path that runs entirely around the mountain in a spiral, with a 'ladder' that shoots directly up for part of it for the more adventurous. That would look a lot nicer than the switchbacks!

My feedback (I may also put this in the community post, since this video is a tad old.): You could put wells and firewood boxes by the campgrounds and cabins. You could put restrooms up near the top of the mountain. You could put an information booth (under city park assets) near the lighthouse, or at least a historical marker, so that people have info about the lighthouses history readily available. You could put benches at a few of the switchbacks up the hill, as well as a few along your 'all ages and abilities trails'.

124 Hours. Looking at the current VB youtube playlist that's how much content you've produced developing this city into the gold standard for Vanilla builds. Watching someone who's an expert at something do something they love has always been a guilty pleasure of mine, watching you create a city that feels so real and perfectly imperfect has been an incredible delight. With the system reaching it's limits and the future of VB looking to close soon, I wanted to say that I am glad that I chose to spend those 125+ hours with you in Verde Beach, Clearwater County, Bluffside Crossing and wherever CS 2 takes us. If I had one request for city wrap up, a city tips style scorecard would be pretty cool. Take a good hard look at your work and see what you did well on, what you could improve on, and stuff that you think didn't get enough attention. Maybe get someone else to do the review for a non-biased perspective if they're willing. Cheers!

I'm sure the citizen limit is impacting the park, but I've also experienced incredibly low usage in parks that span a large distance. No one visited the amenities at the far end from the entrance, no matter what I packed in. So I extended one of my pedestrian areas to that remote area (to teleport garbage out), dropped in a very small road section, and added a cable car at the top with a park entrance right across. Fire & crime on the small road section were kept in check with helicopters. Then I just removed the lonnnnng extension of the pedestrian area to keep down costs, leaving just a small bit right at the top. It worked out really well. The only downside was the occasional citizen who pulled a car out of their pocket to drive the few meters down the road, pull a U-turn, and then park at the park entrance.

The park routes are long and elevated, not great for bikers, the eastern route on flat land has no connection to playa de matero, and the only decent direct route to San Riviera is the tunnel on the west end of the island. I think a great route to add for bikes would be in the center of playa de matero going north through the industrial park and national park. Its a centralized direct route on flat land that i think would of gotten the most attention in development due to the access and ease of not needing to grade

This one was a team effort - half me, half my editor! We're doing that a ton more these days and I think it just really takes thing up a notch. Glad you liked it!

One thing I did to cheat parka was add “hiking routs” in them, which attracted many people. It’s a shame to see Verde Beach go. I’d love to see a good old fluxtrance-style city overview at the end, where you follow vehicles across the city and take some nice drone angles of the city at various times of day. A great way to send off this old city, and welcome the new era of CS2!

Honestly you could have just smoothed off the self-levelling paths rather than trying to do it all manually, it had the same end result more or less. Without stairs in the game it really struggles with slopes. There's no way anyone would agree to blowing up the side of the mountain for that trail. If people want to climb it they would have to put on hiking boots and rough it up the side.

Considering it feels like the land for this park was designated two years ago I'm so happy to see the park finally being built.

I know this is meant to be the closing chapter of Verde Beach, but I would love to see Verde beach being remade in cities 2. Just to see what changes or improvements would be made. (Or another city you've made, admittedly the map would have to be remade too I guess). Loved watching each series you've made.

Man, I’ve been watching this one for awhile. Definitely funny to see a vanilla build end like this! Thanks for the fun series, can’t wait to see what you do with CS:2

Not a wildland firefighter, nor have a worked at a watch tower, but I've hiked to some of them in the Cascades. They won't always be at the absolute high point -- that would be impractical -- but they're almost always at a local high point. That is to say, they won't be *on* a slope, they'll be at the top of the slope, and the only way to reach a higher point will be to go downhill before going back uphill. Essentially, you should have a 360-degree view. :)

Phil, thank you so much for the years of content. This has been one of my favorite of your cities.

The lighthouse reminds me of the castle at Black Elk Peak in South Dakota, and that castle was originally used as a fire watch tower

7:20-ish, rebuilding that road I think was realistic, precisely because it was already very steep. I'm not sure where the money for that would have come from in a real project (I could see it being planned in tandem, but the impact fee budget that's paying for the park probably wouldn't cover it?) but I could see a thought process of, "Hey, that road stinks, and we want bike facilities all the way around, and fixing that road is the best way to get that there!"

My favorite build on VB! Seeing everything get tied together on the island after so long is great

This looks amazing, but what I'd do for that part that goes to the lighthouse -- if you can -- is add a cable lift car because it could be more accessible for people who couldn't get up that path!

Have loved this series. Seeing what you accomplished without mods was very inspirational as my setup cant really handle them. Love your work mate and cant wait to see the finale.

🌴I will be sad to see the end of this series, but the Verde Beach map is looking pretty full. With the completion of the park it seems like you've done everything you set out to do Phil. The only thing I might add are some cabins from the Hotels expansion pack

CPP! My current build is in need of a big park. I’ve noticed as I build the downtown area up it lacks green space. Luckily there’s a big empty lot north of the area so I plan on building a large city park there. As I’m looking for ideas and inspiration, I come across your video! ❤ the lore you build is amazing so I wasn’t shocked at the amount of detail you put into your park. It looks awesome!

I think it would be cool if your Cities 2 city is canonically the "sister city" of Verde Beach, great park

Verde beach will always be my favourite build and a reference to all the cities I watch and watched from CPP, Biffa, infrastructurist to overcharged eggz

I'm not a firefighter myself but I do watch a lot of videos on watchtowers. They are typically built at the highest point because they need a line of sight to be able to notify others of the location of the fire. If they needed to walk to the peak to see over it, they wouldn't be able to use the Osbourne Fire Finder that is in the tower, it's not something you can just pick up and take with you.

I've been so excited about what you would do with the mountain since episode 1, this was fantastic!
