Building the Lyø Dinghy

Meet boatbuilder Jan Vogt and see, how he builds the Lyø Dinghy and the other boats in his design catalogue. Jan is from Germany but settled on the small island of Lyø in the Southern Funen Archipelago a year ago, where he st up his boat yard. He builds traditional wooden craft and explains in the film, how they are neither hard nor time consuming to maintain, even compared to typical GRP boats. Feiner Film! Man kann den Duft von frisch gesägtem Holz fast schnuppern. Wunderschön, dass dieses alte Handwerk weiterlebt. Wird die Lyö-Jolle ohne Schwert gesegelt? Viel Erfolg weiter auf der Insel!

Nein es wird mit einem Schwert gesegelt um bessere Höhe zum Wind zu erzielen ;-)

The video title should be “Talking about building a dinghy” A lot of talk, not much building. A few pencil marks transferred to a plank from a pre-made template, and one plank fed through a thickness planer is not building a dinghy. Disappointing.
