As a mechanic, I know how things would go if I put all of the crimp connectors on the wires before crimping them. At least one of them would work its way part way off then I wouldn't notice it until after I crimped it and pull tested it. Or, as I put my crimper on it, it would move resulting in the same thing - a failed connection. So, my not a builder tip is before you crimp, double check that the wire is fully seated.

Fun fact, in my home country in Europe this wouldn't be allowed per code. No horizontal parts on rails because kids can climb them. Great video, thanks!

Same here in Quebec Canada. Plus the home insurance ppl would be sick the there stomach. Not sure it's fun if a kid climbs of the deck.

Interesting, I though overly litigious folks were a US problem, didn't know we infected other areas of the globe. Dang.
@rsporter3 жыл бұрын
@@JoshuaRes It's not an issue of lawsuits though, it's code. That said, the main code in Canada was changed in 2015 and cable railing is now allowed in many places.
@fredthedude23 жыл бұрын
Here in Norway you can have horizontal parts on rails, but the the maximum gap allowed between each rail is 2cm to prevent children's feet from fitting inside the railing gaps

You could also just take the jig and send one guy along with a punch tool and set the jig on the post and he uses the punch tool to mark the hole locations. The next guy drills them after moving the jig to the next posts. I use a speed square to ensure squareness to the surface. Rinse and repeat.

If Jamie let's the fence on his cable layout jig lip over both sides of the template then you won't have to flip the jig end over end. You can still use it on lefts and rights without having to worry about any inaccuracies in the layout. Top always registers up.
@needaman663 жыл бұрын
Dont have to anyway, its a tight fit
@robj27043 жыл бұрын
Not all 6 X 6 posts are 6 X 6, just like other lumber, the dimensions vary. Having a three sided jig with a definite opening size may allow you to slide it onto one post but not onto another, and having a gap on smaller dimension posts may result in not drilling straight holes. That's just my opinion anyway, and just clamping a two sided jig is not that big of a deal.
@needaman663 жыл бұрын
Really like that system, bet it was expensive though
