Just finished building this kit and I have to say it was a pleasure , typical Tamiya kit practically falls together .

The British wasn’t the only ones using Achilles M10 it was also well used in the Canadian military as well during that time period and it’s a beautiful tank one of my favourite made by GMC with a General Motors 6046 diesel (twin 6-71) 375 hp (276 kW) No.built 1,100 Specifications Mass 29.6 tonnes (65,000 lb) Length 7.01 m (23 ft 8 1⁄4 in) including gun 5.97 m (19 ft 7 in) excluding gun Width 3.05 m (10 ft) Height 2.57 m (8 ft 2 in) Crew 5 (commander, loader, gunner, loader's assistant, driver) Armour 9 to 57.2 mm (0.3 to 2.3 in) Main armament Ordnance QF 17 pounder (76.2 mm) 50 rounds Secondary armament .50 cal (12.7 mm) Browning M2HB AA machine gun 420 rounds .303 (7.62 mm) Bren light machine gun[1] Power/weights 12.5 hp/tonne Suspension Vertical Volute Spring Suspension Operational range 300 km (186 mi) Speed 51 km/h (32 mph)

This looks like a great kit! I'd love to see them mold it in light gray rather than OD. It makes life easier not having to paint the tank a light color just to paint it dark.

light history correction. the achilles is not the just the name for the 17 pounder m10. its for any m10 in brittish service including the 3 inch gun version and the 17 pounder
@barryslemmings315 жыл бұрын
My late father was a vehicle fitter with the 86th Anti-Tank Gun Regiment, Royal Artillery, which operated these at Hill 112, Maltot and Nijmegen. He would have loved this kit. They originally received the U.S. 3-inch gun version but upgraded to the 17-pounder later.

Come for the build, stay for the paint! Awesome video, time well spent.

Great tip about cutting the string. Side note, irl, would the driver's head be in danger during operation of the tank? Sure, during combat they button up but the mantlet looks mighty dangerous for the driver.
@mogmogchan42745 жыл бұрын
Achilles does not only refer to the M10 with the 17 pounder but to the standard 3 inch M10, a good way to tell the difference between the two vehicles by name is if it has a C at the end. Ex, M10c is the 17 pounder conversion, this also applies to the Sherman Firefly. (sorry for any mistakes)
@Anlushac115 жыл бұрын
The turret counterweight are the late production "Duckbill" style counterweight used on all late production M10's. They are not a British style counterweight. The hollowed out depressions in the counterweights were also used as a storage area so common to see items sitting in there.

Hi Andy, congratulations on your success!! Can you do a tutorial on applying dull coat or varnish before and afyer you put on the decals? Wrong application of the dull coat will eat up the paint and decal, right?

One thing I always liked of WII US tanks & spg was that most of them used the same standard hull, this semplified logistic &maintenance , except the russians no one of the others understood the problem. Incredibily realistic model, with the tankers it could be perfect

Thank You again!👍

Awesome build video! I'll have to keep an eye out for this one. One thing I noticed... might be a silly thing on my part, but you seem to pronounce "Accessories" as "asessories," without the hard "x" sound. I wonder if certain pronunciations are in the process of changing... like how people say "stren-th" instead of "strength." Just something I noticed. Languages always change.

It's yet another Tamiya kit engineered for the mid-level builder..and Andy gives a great demo on how to get acceptable results, though certainly not competition grade. tamiya is always A+ on fit, but I still have issues with their habit of molding hatches with persicope flaps shut and making little blobs of plastic where nice tie-down loops and handles should be..and vinyl track? uh no..I do agree, grey plastic is great, how Tamiya is two decades behind China on this is a mystery..personally, I go for more detail and realism and never fully assemble any vehicle then paint..how will you get the rubber tires painted?

I've got old photos of the American m10 with them counter weights on back of turret it's quite confusing since I thought this was the main difference to an Achillies and the 17 pdr of course but if you searching for references on the Achillies what's near damb impossible if you don't have books everyone does the same 2 version's Boring! I'm doing afv clubs it's alot of work it's not great but lots more detail plus I have spare asuka m4a2 parts going on it for lights n tools all the extras and got the brass shell's for it it's missing that hole in the back of turret to the bin if it's a drainage hole or what I don't know but it's on iDF version's I'm trying to see if it's on the original ww2 version or not?
