Definitely close the top portion better safe then sorry. You also frame all your staples with molding to protect the staples from popping out from the wood due to whether changes. Looks beautiful. Plants will give it that special touches. Enjoy your Aviary 🐦 🐦‍⬛ will love it.

Screw in some 1/2 in boards on the tops of the interior beams to protect from the bird poop, you can stain them the same color and only need to replace a board down the road instead of a beam. Looks awesome.

Very nice aviary. I definitely think you should close that top part near the shed as you said cats n hawks can bother the birds from that area plus itl give them a nice covered secluded spot for the more timid species you keep. Cant wait for the next part of this build😊

I would definitely enclose that Top part! Stops the high drafts / and the risk of predators getting at your birds.

Looks good Chris, but please just cover that top bit in near the roof of the shed... we had the same sort of scenario and lost two Yellow Rumps to hawks, and they were nesting... devastating... Love the wood, and those branches are awesome... So looking forward to seeing it finished with plants and all... Cheers for sharing...

Thank you. I’m going to put plexi glass on the outside of it. Then they can still enjoy the sunlight from there but also be protected from predators and the elements.

Thank you! You should build you something. Winters are hard as you know being from NY. But when it’s warm outside it so worth having an aviary.
