I finally have the PERFECT case for my modular synth! It might not be or everyone but I love it.
Have you ever dreamed about having the perfect case for YOUR synth? What shape would it have? How many modules would it hold? And where would you put it?
In this video, I build my own Eurorack modular synthesizer case from scratch! I walk you through the problem I'm trying to solve, my constraints, and how I built this case for myself. I hope it will inspire some viewers to build your own!
Note: This has turned out to be a super-long video, so I split it up into two parts. I'll post part 2 as soon as I can.

Ace. I, too, love Opeth. Excited about seeing them live (4th time for me!) in December. Unfortunately none of the commercial off-the-shelf Eurorack cases are even close to being big enough for me anymore. Looking lustfully at Erik Needham's website...

I just looked up Eric Needham and had to pick my jaw up off the floor. Gorgeous. Plus I'm experiencing total woodshop envy right now!

Excellent videos! I love everything you release. Have you considered cutting those end pieces out of a nice wood like walnut to really make it not only look great but to also make them more durable? Maybe with an oil finish? Anyways, just a suggestion. Keep up the excellent content!

Totally--a machine like this would have no problem with any kind of wood. In this case I used MDF since I knew I wanted to wrap it in vinyl, but if I was to build it again, I might use walnut or some other nice wood as you say. Thanks for watching!

Good vid. Be aware that you can come across rails that are not standardized. There are more than a few out there where you will have a head scratching moment. Some use 2.5mm threaded inserts, some inserts will not fit other rails, some also use different sized threaded bolts for the rails too. Gie-tec are cool , there are also Schroff, Rittall, and others who are not necessarily pulling in the same standardised direction.

Good tips. Yes, the "standardization" around these rails is not exactly robust or consistent. Which sort of defeats the point of standardization but it's better than nothing, I suppose!

You know what's better than double sided tape? Painters tape on both the stock and the spoilboard and superglue. Comes out way easier than double sided tape and can be used for aluminium sheet. For smaller and thicker aluminium, just superglue it to a piece of wood.

Next time, I think you need to go all Senor Coconut on us if you are going with the same musicstyle 😃 I am planing a case for my 2 (soon to be 3 according to teaser?) Dreadbox DIY modules/synths and maybe a Keystep ot my BS Pro so very interesting video to hear about your thinking process/execution even if I plan something different.

Super nice... But I was hoping for an Ikea EuroHack... Unfortunately a CNC isn't standard fittings in a home... neither is a 3D printer and 3D scanner, unfortunately and CAD isn't taught in elementary school, but hey, let's hope for a better future =) Perhaps the additional modular left over are looking for an Ikea styled home?

I'm no IKEA expert but I've heard the IKEA Rast (and probably other furniture they sell) is exactly the right size/shape to hold Eurorack rails and things! In fact, someone made step-by-step instructions: www.canecreek.co.uk/page7/index.html

Correct! I like the look of vector rails better although the other ones are more practical.

Se podria hacer un mueble que sostenga un par de teclados midi y algun controlador mas midi, y barras led y la placa base de un pc y una pantalla de 42 pulgadas de una smart tv y quedaria completo.

Have You noticed any issues of concern that are the result of your decision to go with 168 hp? I ask because I’ve got 168 hp rails and it’s the dimension I want, only I’m uncertain whether that will get heavy with modules and eventually want to sag. Should I put a supporting column in the middle, or go 2x 84 hp? Your workspace looks great, b t w! Thanks for sharing this, and very good job on the project!

I loaded this case up and have been living with it for several weeks now and there have been no sagging issues at all. It seems fine but I’ll follow up if there is a problem. Thanks for watching!

But you didn't leave many empty spaces! Eurocrack systems are known to breed, and before you know it, you have a whole room full of modules.
@LeoMakes
@LeoMakes 5 жыл бұрын
Oh, I've discovered this. I have other cases and boxes full of modules. I actually find it's nice to have a "small" curated list of modules that I like using right now. 168hp seems to be a good number for me. If I get bored, I'll swap a few things out. Any more than 168hp and I end up getting option anxiety and I find myself making less music.
