I haven’t built an armor kit yet, so it strikes me as so very odd to watch so much unpainted plastic being assembled. There must be many hidden spots that never get any paint or primer; behind handles, between the wheels, etc. And don’t even get me started on the interior,..... sheesh. I guess it doesn’t matter. I should hurry up and finish college so I can start building my armor kits...

Great job again Andy! I have a question for anyone. I recently purchased a very nice airbrush (Badger Patriot) but I'm having a problem with my paint drying quickly in the tip of the brush and making it splatter. I've heard that Vallejo paints dry quicker so I may start using my tamiya paints. Andy if possible could you maybe do a short simple video with a few airbrush tips on using and cleaning or maybe just touch on it in next video. Any help will be appreciated.

This was a bit of a nightmare build for me. First I realised using Tamiya extra thin cement is only for use in reinforcing already snap-locked parts, hatches, panel lines etc, in whats called a 'capillary' action. I switched to my old Humboldt poly cement and then Tamiya regular cement, with better results. Second, some of the parts were unnecessarily tiny. I'm talking 2mm, if that. and lots of them. Thirdly, and a major problem was attaching the right side upper hull panel. the box was too far forward, as well as the fender did not fit, NOT EVEN CLOSE. I had to cut back the fender, unglue the equipment box and re-position it to enable the side hull to fit neatly with the right hull piece. The problem was the fender now is sunk in and not nice and flush like the other side. And that's just halfway through the build. 42 steps. I am choosing to use Tamiya fine surface primer oxide red which is hard to get, but replicates the undercoat rust look that most German AFV's have. I'm looking to do a Opel PanzerWerfer (on the Skd 251) next, don't know if you have a build of that.

Hi Andy. I really enjoyed your videos and it helped me alot in understanding the method of painting of model kits. Im still new in this hobby. anyway, is it mandatory to "coat" the whole kit in dark color (for example nato black) as a base color? The only thing I understand is the dark color gave shadowy effect after it was sprayed all over again with lighter color. Please enlighten me. And sorry for the bad english. Cheers and keep up the good work!

Hi there Andy! I love your technique you make modeling look so easy. I have one question, when you put your coat of dark yellow, how come it stays at that colour? You see, when i painted my panther in dark yellow, the colour turned into a sickly green shade as it dried. Not a big fan of that shade. i used tamiya dark yellow, the same you used, but the colors on the mods are extremly different.

Hi Andy, awesome site. I have a question. Seeing as you do not use a primer I have to know how you keep paint on your photo etch parts? I have primed my stuff but even then it rubs off in areas. Could it be that the etch has a chemical film on it, residue, prohibiting adhesion?

Update: Firstly, this is a good 'overall' construction video. To actually complete over 50 steps and sub-steps plus nuanced and additional 'add-on' parts would take up another 30 min video. (radio antennae, MG mounting, Gun shield, special gluing technique...) This model for me was a steep learning curve. I'm a returning fine-scale military modeler, with a panzer truppen fetish. I returned by completing a 1/48 ME Bf 109e (with Diorama runway), a basic R/C 1/48 Jagdpanther minus the anachronistic electronic parts; and then turned my attention to the 1/35 Tamiya Nashorn for about $90 Aus. My wallet was strained, as was my patience, sanity, and faith. I purchased MANY extra paints, weathering kits, special red oxide fine surface primer, panel line accent colors, and to top it off, an extra KIT, to name just a few. Now I appreciate that I'm not a pro, I don't have an airbrush - compressor (yet), but this kit seriously challenged me, and I haven't even finished it yet. What I have learned: 1. If you can afford it, buy a spare(2) kit. 2. Patience, breathing, and patience. 3. Test every fit first using either blu-tack or previewing, along with reviews and historical data. 4. Navy SEAL saying: two is as good as one is as good as none. (I think) 5. Occasionally, get up and walk away. 6. The kit is not an infant child. My inventory: (all 1/35) Tamiya Tiger I, initial production (desert diorama); Panther Ausf G ( Eastern front village diorama), Desert 88 FLaK 36 anti-tank position diorama, Wehrmacht MG squad entrenched in Ardenne forest '44. Happy modeling!

I never paint my road wheels on the tank, way too messy
@kiowhatta16 жыл бұрын
That's just the difference between priming and painting the parts while on the sprue, or when the model is assembled. On this Pz III/IV, the wheels are a little more accessible once built, whereas on a Pz 38t, Panther, Tiger wheels are overlapping so it makes sense then to paint them before they go on.
