I like your technique for the seams of the fuselage! I'm currently working on the Revell 1/48 B-29 and its huge! Not lots to fill but a challenge to go together nicely

Fantastic job as always. I know I’ll probably get flamed for this, but the engine colors are incorrect. Pratt & Whitney R-2800’s cylinders were left unpainted and the push rod tubes were black. The engine nose case, power sections and rear accessory case were about the color of Model Master Gunship Grey. Rocker boxes on top of the cylinders were also that color. Please understand, I am NOT putting your work down. Hardly. I’d love to have your skills, I just wanted to point out the color mistakes for the engine. I worked on radial engines for a living and one thing I’ll clear up, we called them rocker boxes, but valve covers would be the correct term most likely. Best wishes, God speed

Really clean as always! Next time try some metallic paint, a spangled paint to make it more realistic as it is on the box. It would be awesome! Cheers from France !

Rubbing alcohol is great. 91% rubbing alcohol from Walmart works well

I see you managed to get the exhaust vents in for the engine compartment. Two things though, the front snout for a R-2800 is engine gray and the wheel wells for a Republic P-47 would be chrome yellow, but a Curtis P-47 is green chromate, Curtis P-47's never saw action, all of them stayed in the U.S for training purposes. You did do an excellent job on the build, and the canopy trick is a good tip. Going to try the D-25 "Bubble top" or the "M" version?

yeah but it would have been interesting to see how well a crutis built thunderbolt would have done in combat.

From what I've read the "G" was not combat certified and basically built for state side training. When pilots arrived from the U.S. they were required to be checked out in the air with group 47's. Republic 47's were heavier, but also more powerful and responsive to the controls.
@MrBioniclefan18 жыл бұрын
+bob dyer man alive that training on the G model would have helped a little but still it stinks that the G couldn't be used in combat.

Nice build! However, I am a bit hazy on one of the steps of your build. What is the purpose of painting over the canopy prior to attaching and masking it. Aren't you just creating another step and more work by having to clean the canopy later, or am I missing something obvious?? You have to mask it anyway, so why not permanently attach it, mask it, then paint the model, hence eliminating the added step and work of cleaning off the paint from the canopy. Another benefit to doing it in that order is that when you attach the canopy prior to painting, you're attaching plastic to plastic, with no paint layer in between. Correct?

Andy's Hobby Headquarters, just found your KZbin channel and subscribed and have really enjoyed your video's. Just found an old box of the 1/48 Monogram Classics Carrier based Douglas torpedo bomber the Devastator TBD-1, looks like I have all the parts, but somehow lost the instruction manual. Any ideas where I can find them. Have not been successful searching for them on the internet yet. The kit is from 1999. Once again nice channel Andy. You have me wanting to build plastic models again.

@bennyjoe19908 жыл бұрын
Hey Andy. First off, great job on the build, it looks fantastic! But I do have one question, what color did you use for the underside color?Because I recently got a similar kit of the P-47 by Tamiya (an older one) and it recommends as-12 for the bottom, but I thought that the undersides were a light grey color. Anyway, if you could reply to this that would be great! P.S. great job again on the model. She's a beauty!

Great work, Andy!!! I watch all your videos. Living in Grafenwohr Germany with US Army. I am really interested in the P47 Thunderbold build. I was on a DPAA (POW/MIA) recovery mission this past April, searching for an MIA pilot who was listed as missing in OCT '43. We found the pilot and i have 2 .50 Cal rounds from this aircraft. I would like to do this plane and mount the rounds on a base with a photo of the pilot. (I cannot give up the name of the pilot due to the search for next of kin and the case is still open.

There are hundreds of searches put on every year looking for the remains of US Soldiers lost in battle. They are a mix of volunteer and charity based organizations that wish to locate and bring home the remains of any soldier that went MIA/KIA unrecoverable. Even if they are confirmed dead by sight, the families and relatives want their remains to be identified, brought home, and buried with honors. To us its a matter of honor for those that have given the ultimate sacrifice. I'm sure other countries feel the same way and have the same types of research projects ongoing.
