Building the Tilt Tray - HX One Tonner Tray Build Episode 2

The outside frame of the tray is 65x35x2mm RHS
Inside frame will be made of 35x35x2 SHS
Guards from Mr Mudguard 2x DR1228
Tilt hinges are custom made up - Brackets are 5mm plate and the bushes are made up to suit the roller bearings

You will definitely need some gas struts or an actuator to lift it up. Much easier to do it before you pain the tray as well. Looking great so far 👍

Did you consider using your tail light number plate bar as part of your tray?? End the chassis rails with a bar between them, and move that bar onto your tray end.

Hey Mate it's a evolution cold cut saw. Really good saw and blade. I have had it for 2.5 years and cut a lot with it and it's still cuts like new.

Have binged the entire playlist. It's been very educational thank you. Have learned so much from the way you work through the problems. One question. What mig wire (6mm or 8mm) are you using for the panel repairs? Have read/listened to many points of view. Wondering what you have bene using.

Hey Mate glad the videos can help. The wire I use is .9mm wire. This is the most common wire and I have used it for all the welding on the Tonner.

Is it a good idea to have the filler cap under the tray? Depending on what you're carrying, it's going to be a p.i.t.a. having to lift the tray to fill up. Even if the tray is really easy to lift, the contents will move when you lift it. The other thing I noticed was the lack of meat around the bearings. It looks like you cut out a lot of strength when you mounted the bushes/bearings; is it strong enough to support the tray, especially at an angle? Don't mean to sound critical, just the viewpoint of the completely unqualified viewer.😁
