4 жыл бұрын

In this video we will walk through the overall process of how to build a deck and restore an old deck. We'll also show how the deck stairs, a privacy wall, and cable railing were built.
Today's video is sponsored by Trex. Trex decking is a composite decking material that is low maintenance, durable, easy clean, and great looking choice of decking. To learn more and check out colors available head over to bit.ly/2JPfLL9
We'll restore an old deck by tearing off the existing decking, replacing the joists, and then installing Trex decking. For the new deck, we'll pour the footings, put up the posts, frame, block, install decking, and do steps and a rail. The DIY cable railing is made by welding posts and then using affordable cable and hardware.
The video shows the complete transformation of the deck area from start to finish. I hope this episode provides inspiration for you to build or restore a deck. A deck is a great place to entertain friends and family which will create memories for years to come. It's also a fantastic investment to add value to a home.

I have to commend you on such a beautiful job. The deck as well as your explanations on how you accomplished certain aspects of your build were amazing. Most videos of deck builds do not go through the why's and how's like you did, so for that I'm truly appreciative. I'm sure you'll enjoy that beautiful view for many years to come. Thanks again.

F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C !!! Your work is the best I've ever seen !! Our 12' X 30' screened-in wood deck was 34 years old and clad in 5/4" planks. Two years ago, the rotted planks were collapsing. Unbeknownst to us, the existing 8" x 12' joists were 24" apart, not 16" with no center support with few joist strap nails. The original planks ran parallel with the house. We decided to run the 12' Trex planks perpendicular from the house to eliminate butt ends. So we bought 62 12' Trex planks as not to have any butt seams and also used the tab fasteners rather than nails. What we were NOT aware of, is the Trex -Tape.

Hello Pete, I want to first give God praise for giving you strength to remodel your house and build your deck. Your video was so inspirational and gives me ambition to build my deck and finish my basement. I have gotten quotes after quotes for hiring contractors and have become frustrated with the up charge that I can only imagine is due to the pandemic. Even if I chose to hire a contractor they can’t get to me until either this winter or next fall. So, I’m considering doing the work myself. I believe I can do it. But I’m a little nervous with the not knowing how and where to start. Wish me God’s blessings. Thank you
@DIYPETE

I wish you luck and hope the project goes well! Yes, the pandemic is affecting building costs tremendously. It's tough for me to by a 2x4 these days when they are $6.50 when I'm used to spending $2.50. I hope costs go down sooner than later. Take care!

Beautiful place and great looking finished product! As an alternate with that long of a deck instead of staggering the boards and butting the ends you could have put down 1 or 2 Trex boards at a 90 degree angle (from the house straight out) then start another section. It would help break up the long runs on such a large deck. To make things easier on a new deck you could build one stair stringer to your desired rise/run and then use that to determine where to build the pad - just a thought to save some calculating later. Pieces of leftover Trex decking also make great shims where you need them. Beautiful place Pete.

You are one of the best DIY in doing TREX decking.installation. I have only one suggestion. Since you like in snowy area, you could have using stainless steel screws in. All edge boards and use stainless screws to secure all TREX decking board. It will guarantee you never has to replace any TREX decking in your life time.

99% awesome my fellow carpenter.Your details on the deck work was sweet! The "slab"(18 bags) was sufficient to support the stair's weight but has now allowance for the heave on structural members to the freeze thaw cycle. Your treads will eventually pitch backwards as the slabs heaves due to frost. piers at frost depth is code in certain climates

In about 2e days I'll be building a 1/3rd deck around a 15' above ground pool using the exact same decking (same brand, type and color). This video was super helpful! And great job on that hot tub! Thank you!

I used those hurricane clips on my deck and front porch as well. I used them for rafter ties for my shop and decided to use for the deck. They provide more support than a twist strap does.

Nice work, Pete. You provided many great tips for anyone planning on building a deck, whether using Trex or traditional materials. Nice view, too. Jealous!
