It's an incredible puzzle! However, from a level design perspective, there is not really a strong indication for the next objective. When designing a puzzle, you want your player to know very clearly where the next step is, so they can think and try to get there. In this puzzle, if it's presented to someone who don't know anything about it, they would just feel like they're popping out random pieces. For example, the spinning one, there is literally no way for the player to know that spinning is the way to solve it because they were not giving a chance to see the mechanism inside the box, so they wouldn't even know what they need to try to achieve, which is to pull that drawer out.
@puzzLEGO3 жыл бұрын
yeah, that is a good point. some steps are kind of like that. I really just went all out on this one pretty much, so it's probably way too difficult
@amazingleomar68853 жыл бұрын
Isn’t that why you have difficulty ratings on puzzles? This puzzle is very hard for a new person but experienced puzzlers would know about a lot of these tricks. Check out Mr Puzzle’s channel. This kind of thing would be perfect for him. If you market this to the average person though, then they’d be totally lost.

@TheSportsGuru That’s a interesting perspective. I agree that there could be two methodologies behind designing puzzles, incredibly hard puzzles that focuses on pure difficulty which really forces you to try everything for the puzzle enthusiast and puzzles that focuses more on the experience, almost like an escape room, for everyone else.

Yeah, impressive, intricate... A little too intricate... Thing is: with Lego things will break. And pieces like the piece with the jumper plate will confuse people who don't really know that much about Lego. Or they will feel like they broke the puzzle when taking off certain parts like the part to begin with. Also, so many parts that you're left with in the end. It just looks kinda messy. So it is a good puzzle, but it would be better if it were bigger and more solid. Maybe emphasize the first piece a bit so non-lego-experienced people understand it is supposed to be taken off. The jumper plate I don't really have a solution for. And finally: try to have certain parts which come off/get out be slid back in and stay there after being used. So you're in the end left with fewer loose parts. This is just criteria, do don't take it personal. I still think the whole puzzle is chill. But it would make for a better puzzle if it was 3D printed (which the video is a good "blueprint" for). Pieces will be more solid (hopefully), certain parts will stick better or be more loose (for the puzzle experience an important aspect) and because it wouldn't be Lego people won't be as afraid to do certain things with it like spinning it or holding it upside-down ( because believe me, most people will always expect the studs have to be on top). But in the end, well done ✅
@puzzLEGO3 жыл бұрын
yeah for sure, there's a lot of flaws, I'm planning on making a more sturdy one with some of those as criteria

@@puzzLEGO I'm glad you read my long boring comment and aren't angry with it 🙃. I really do think the puzzle is challenging, but maybe a little too challenging at some points. Maybe I'll try to make something myself, probably not as intricate as this. What I think you should consider doing is make some short videos on puzzle mechanisms and how to implement them. Maybe talk a little bit about them, the pros and cons. Thank you for building!

im sure you have read other comments on this exact thing, but it looks really great and all the mechanisms are so clever! i could have never thought of it on my own, let alone at such a scale! the problem that i believe it falls into is (again, a fair few people have already stated, and you have acknowledged) it's lack of establishing and following it's own rules. a big rule in any sort of play design philosophy, and it is relatively universal in that scope, is that you never hold the players hand, and you never leave them clueless either. always give people just enough information, so they figure it out on their own, with an understanding of the rules. a great example of this is the game 'Portal' where the game shows you how everything works, but never tells you. TL:DR - I love the design, you are incredibly good at this! i believe a pinch of design philosophy can make your stuff perfect! keep it up man!

I don't understand why piece manipulations are permitted only on some parts, but not on others. For instance, I don't see how being allowed to rotate the offset plate is different from removing the claw piece from the first key. Or how the pin axle couldn't simply be removed at 8:37.

I understand this is supposed to be hard. But the point of these puzzles is that everything has to be part of the puzzle that's there. But the fact you have to spin it and tilt and shake is so far beyond what you should expect from someone other than yourself. Make it a challenge, not impossible to the point where the only way it's solved is if you explain each step. Friendly tip. : )
@puzzLEGO3 жыл бұрын
yeah, the original point of this puzzle was to literally make it ridiculously hard and send it to chris with a challenge, but I'm planning on making another one that's a bit more logical but still hard
