A: if I can improve the design enough so it's reliable I will Q: when you scramble it by rearranging the pieces, isn't there a chance it won't be solvable A: yes, I realised this while editing. there's only 1/12 chance Q: can't you use 2x2 round plates instead of square ones? A: the circles make it too loose, I've tried this. I have an idea about how to improve that i'll show you if I make another video about this Q: is someone knocking on my door at 4:03? A: no, it's just a realistic sound effect, sorry for that

When you "scrambled" it by taking it apart and putting it together randomly, there's a good chance it wasn't solvable due to parity. There's edge parity and corner parity. You have to swap corners in cycles of 3 assuming no edges are swapped, you have to swap edges in pairs of 2 and cannot flip just 1 edge. All corners must be turned in sets of 3 (all clockwise or all counterclockwise) as well. Feel free to reply if you have any questions.

So, I think I understand the issue. The core isn't as found as it should be, so considering a quality of typical Rubik cubes design, you must come up with two improvements: one, make the mechanism more circular. Two, make it springy. Typical speed cubes are loose but springy, so if you can find some perfectly sized springs it will allow for some play. Obviously corner cutting is out of the question but something to make it looser.
@puzzLEGO3 жыл бұрын
that was a bit hard to follow, but I think that's right. when I try to turn it, sometimes pieces will jut out a bit, so either I need to make sure all the pieces line up when not turned (magnets) or I stop the jutting pieces from prohibiting turning (curved corners on the 2x2 plates)
@TechSupportDave3 жыл бұрын
@@puzzLEGO The magnets may be another challenge because with such precise turns needed (due to the pieces not being ROUNDED), the magnets would have to be pretty strong, not only to make the cube easier to turn but also to compensate for the (potential) plastic thickness, as I am not sure if you would need to make any changes to the piece design to account for the space necessary to MOUNT the magnets into the cube pieces. In standard speedcubes, the gap between all magnets is usually less than 0.15mm of plastic, this is so that SMALLER (standard) cube magnets work normally. However, with LEGOs, technically there doesn't need to even be a gap. It would be pointless trying to make the magnets "embedded" inside of the cube pieces, as that would likely only pose additional challenges. So "mounting" the magnets to "indents" in the sides of the cube pieces may be easier, depending on whether you would want to use GLUE or not to achieve this. --- However, I am only speculating, and it is unclear as to what exactly you are against doing. For example, implementing a CLICKING MECHANISM, instead of magnets, would likely require unorthodox lego-building methods. At the least, moving parts. At most, a bunch of metal beads and tiny springs with drilled holes to house the system.
@puzzLEGO3 жыл бұрын
@@TechSupportDave yeah magnets are a last resort. they don't need to be too strong anyway. basically I just need to allow a bit of corner cutting

try using 3x3 plate pieces for each piece of the cube. so you would end up with a 9x9 on each face of the cub, but individually having 9 tiles on each side that is a 3x3. Looking at the design there are a lot of places where curved edges would not be possible. Also, even if you could make it all with circles it might not be any better, it would probably be too sloppy when turning. The most practical option if you really wanted to improve the turning would be to sand a small curve on each of the corners

Considering the weird collaborations Lego has been doing lately, such as IKEA and Adidas, I could imaging seeing an official version of this.

I finally got all of the pieces for mine, based on your prevoius design, and /when/ i can get it to be assembled, it instantly falls apart when i go to turn it. I'm SUPER looking forward to building this version of it! Super awesome work! Love it!!
@puzzLEGO3 жыл бұрын
thanks! the old version was absolutely terrible, this one I can actually sell with confidence that you won't be disappointed. a couple of tips: 1. if the cube feels too tight to turn, slide the tiles on the edge pieces just a very very small amount toward the centre. this will also stabilise the 1x2 tiles from rotating 2. check for stuck pieces before turning, this is the main issue that I need to fix in this cube. if there's a stuck piece, you might have to manually unstick it otherwise the cube should work much better than the old one lol
@yorgle3 жыл бұрын
@@puzzLEGO My biggest problem with it is that the 1x2 tiles in the inside portion of the edge pieces, end up sliding around, jamming the cube. I was able to make a checkerboard pattern though!... once. ;D Still.. cheers, mate, this is an amazing accomplishment!

@@yorgle yeah don't worry there's further improvements to come, It's still not good enough for lego ideas. interesting that those tiles slide, maybe I just treated it too fragilely

Years ago when I was a child like 8 yrs old or smth I wanted to build a lego cube, but just a one colored cube, and not rubiks cube (flat plates on each side tho, so not just a 3x3x3 thingy out of those 2x2x2 pieces). It took me longer than I expected, about 3 hours, probably because I was a child and for children, even if they like Lego, even building a cube more complicated than they think. Next day I visited it him before we gotta go somewhere and I showerd it to him and his mom asked us if we wanna build such for him too, i just thought no way we build this in 30 minutes, when it took me 3h

3:52 Ah, I see I'm not the only one that discovered that viable piece combination... Though the creations I built, myself, were er... not for uses as practical (if you can call it that) as a Rubik's Cube...

Fun fact: when you put together a 3x3 randomly, there’s only a 1/12 chance it’s actually solvable. Edit: Nevermind, you knew that.

Remarkable bit of engineering and it looks so stable this time! Question as I love looking at my KZbin stats for videos! What was the reach for the first 24 hours and then 7 days if you don’t mind me asking?
@puzzLEGO3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I got 50k on the first day and 900k in a week. The click through rate has been dropping to about 5% probably because of the wider audience but I’ll change the thumbnail soon to see. The reason it did so well was the average view duration, which was about 4 minutes (mostly I get 2 minutes 30 seconds lol)
@GazRsExtremeBrickMachines3 жыл бұрын
@@puzzLEGO cheers Puzz for that! Yeah the reach will drop when it’s shown to none lego lovers but it’s done great! The thumbnail pic just stood out so well! I’m not surprised at the viewer retention, I don’t think it matters how good the video is people naturally skip! My tug of wars usually average 70% but the click rate now has just dropped on them. Too much of one thing. Anyway thank you again! Keep it up :)
